Preakness 2012 Results: Payouts for Top Bets Placed on Epic Race

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Preakness was one of the most epic Triple Crown races in the sport’s illustrious history. Once again, Bodemeister had an incredible run but faltered down the stretch and was overtaken by I’ll Have Another.

This was either a huge heartbreak or incredible finish, depending on which gambler you talk to. Those who backed I’ll Have Another were rewarded with a big payday, while those who had Bodemeister winning were sorely disappointed.

Let’s take a look at how much some winning tickets at the 2012 Preakness Stakes paid.

$2 Win/Place/Show: $8.40, $3.80, $2.80

$2 Place/Show: $3.20, $2.80

$2 Show: $3.60

Those who had I’ll Have Another to win brought back a decent return, while Bodemeister and Creative Cause paid minimal profits for their respective place and show.

$2 Exacta: $18.60

This was a relatively easy exacta to hit, especially boxed, and it paid out a respectable $18.60 for every $2 waged.

$2 Trifecta: 70.80

Now we are getting to the big money. Considering that Creative Cause went off close to 6-1, this wasn’t a completely unexpected trifecta. The top two horses finished where many thought they would, and boxing the 6 horse in with them resulted in a nice trifecta.

$1 Superfecta: 424.30

Whoa. Anyone who had a 9-7-6-4 superfecta got paid. Zetterholm was one of the longshots that many insiders liked and felt had a chance to actually win the race. While placing fourth in an 11-horse field isn’t anything special, the bettors who put Zetterholm in a superfecta box definitely aren’t complaining.
