Manny Pacquiao: Intense Training Will Not Save Pac-Man Against Bradley

Alex KayMay 31, 2018

Manny Pacquiao is working extremely hard at training camp to prepare for his upcoming June 9 fight against Timothy Bradley. Unfortunately, all of those hours in the gym will be for naught when Bradley wins the bout.

According to Ronnie Nathanielsz of BoxingScene.com, Pac-Man has been in the gym for too long. He’s on the verge of overtraining and damaging his chances against Bradley.

Coach Alex Ariza stated that he felt his fighter looked great on Tuesday and Thursday, but Saturday was a different result.

"

The strength and conditioning coach pointed out that “hopefully they will recognize that this is the time when we start to push too hard close to the fight and we end up sliding backwards.”

Ariza said he would like to see Pacquiao “give boxing a little bit of a break” stating that since he’s been sparring well he should “take a few days off and go do something else” pushing for a greater effort in Pacquiao’s physical conditioning program.

"

Pacquiao is reportedly using multiple sparring partners, including 21-1 Ruslan Provodnikov and 22-6-1 Rustam Nugaev, and competing in multiple-round matches with these young boxers in an attempt to prepare for his impending bout.

Considering that the 28-year-old Bradley is training just as hard—with a youthful edge to his workouts—as his 33-year-old opponent, things do not look good for the Filipino fighter.

Lance Pugmire of The Los Angeles Times found that Bradley’s regiment is quite intense and it seems that the undefeated fighter is ready to dethrone Pac-Man.

"

Bradley has his own demonic workout, routinely going for 10-mile runs in the desert regardless of the temperature, while pushed by a drill-sergeant-like father. He said his body fat is 3%.

Bradley referred to Pacquiao's recent bouts -- he has four consecutive victories by decision -- as "lackadaisical.... He'll have to dig down deep to beat me."

"

With the upcoming boxer showing so much swagger and confidence, it will be tough for him to lose. It’s going to be a lot easier for Desert Storm if his opponent continues to train too hard and damage his progress.
