Preakness 2012: Daddy Nose Best Should Skip Belmont After Bad Run at Pimlico
Bodemeister's trainer has announced that his horse will not run in the Belmont Stakes, but Daddy Nose Best should also be sitting the next one out. He has been anything but impressive in the first two legs of the Triple Crown, and he shouldn't be a favorite at the Belmont on June 9.
Daddy Nose Best finished 10th out of 19 horses at the Kentucky Derby and then ninth out of 11 horses at the Preakness. It's obvious things aren't getting better for him. He had some success in the Grade 3 races he had been entered in prior to the Derby,
He tallied back-to-back wins in the El Camino Real Derby and the Sunland Derby, but he has clearly been out-classed since the competition has increased. His trainers can spare the expense, risk of injury and the embarrassment from another poor showing by not entering the Belmont Stakes.
The Belmont is going to be I'll Have Another's show. He has as good a chance to complete the Triple Crown as any horse has in the past 25 years. Daddy Nose Best and Bodemeister have both had two chances to defeat him, and both races have proven that I'll Have Another is the better colt.
It's time for both horses to step aside and allow I'll Have Another to shine, while a fresh group of colts take their shot at beating the horse of the year.
We'll have to wait and see what happens, but I think a formal announcement is in order.
