Belmont Stakes Odds 2012: I'll Have Another Clear Favorite Without Bodemeister

Sam R. QuinnJun 7, 2018

I'll Have Another has been listed as the odds favorite at 3-2 without a horse in the field that seems to be up to the challenge of preventing the first Triple Crown victory since 1978.

The three-year-old colt shocked the world for the second time when he overtook Preakness Stakes favorite Bodemeister and won buy a nose, putting a cap on yet another instant classic.

After the race, trainer Bob Baffert said that Bodemeister will not be racing in the Belmont Stakes after suffering a second disappointing loss at the hands of the newest favorite horse in thoroughbred racing.

Union Rags, who didn't race at the Preakness, is listed at 6-1 odds and could be the one horse primed to give I'll Have Another a run for his money. Union Rags went off at 5-1 at the Kentucky Derby before he was unable to make a run for the roses as he was boxed in early on.

Dullahan and Paynter are both listed at 8-1. Dullahan, who finished third at the Kentucky Derby but sat out of the Preakness, is trained by Dale Romans and ridden by jockey Kent Desormeaux. The horse seemed as though he would have been able to catch I'll Have Another at the Kentucky Derby if the track was a quarter-mile longer. In case you were wondering, the Belmont is a quarter-mile longer than the Kentucky Derby.

Paynter is trained by Bob Baffert, so he will be looking to spoil I'll Have Another's shot for the Triple Crown with a thoroughbred other than Bodemeister.

Optimizer is listed at 12-1 and finished sixth at the Preakness. Trained by D. Wayne Lukas, Optimizer is only 1-for-11 in his career.

Mark Valeski, who won the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont park last weekend, is listed at 15-1.

Alpha is listed at 18-1 and will be looking to pull off an I'll Have Another-type upset at the Belmont stakes.

New shooters Rousing Sermon, Five Sixteen and Antigun are all currently listed at 20-1 and will be looking to dispel the notion that the new shooters don't stand much of a chance against the returning field.

Street Life, Steelcase and Guyana Star Dweej (who has the best name in the field), are listed at 30-1 and are not given much of a chance to challenge I'll Have Another in his quest for thoroughbred racing immortality.
