Eden Hazard: Chelsea Must Break Bank for Future Superstar

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Eden Hazard is a big deal.

The 21-year old future superstar recorded a hat-trick on Sunday in his final game in a Lille uniform. It’s no wonder why the bosses of the Premier League want this kid on their club. Chelsea, though, sounds primed to blow its competition for Hazard out of the water with an offer that he can’t refuse.

Simon Mullock of Mirror Football reported that, according to sources, Hazard's agent John Bico traveled to London to get a contract done with the Blues. Hazard wouldn’t just be signing any contract. The agreement would be worth £100 million—£200,000 a week.

If those sources are on point, I would bet money that money isn’t holding up a deal. But according Crunch Sports, nothing is official yet. He was expected to announce his decision on Sunday after the match, but instead said: “My agent has met with Manchester, and with Chelsea, they both give good offers, and are both great clubs.”

As Chelsea is in danger of losing Didier Drogba to an expiring contract, they can’t lose in the race for Hazard. The attacking midfielder has drawn comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for a reason—he’s a stud.

ESPN’s scouting report of Hazard reads:

"

A defender's nightmare, Hazard can dribble at pace and, like Lionel Messi, he is 5ft 7in and has a low centre of gravity that helps him breeze past opposition players. He has an eye for the spectacular and has scored some memorable solo efforts.

"

And according to Total Football Magazine’s Marcus Banks, Zinedine Zidane gave a parallel opinion about Hazard and said: “Eden is technically gifted and very fast. I would take him to Real Madrid with my eyes closed. He can become a great footballer; he is a star of the future."

Yes, £100 million is an insane amount of money, but for a player who possesses the potential to be the best football player in the world for years to come, it’s what must be done to reel him in.
