Belmont Stakes 2012: Date, Post Time, TV Schedule and Early Predictions

Richard LangfordMay 19, 2012

Thanks to I'll Have Another's win at the Preakness, the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes became must-see TV.

That would be due to that magnificent colt winning the first two legs of the Triple Crown and is entering this race with a chance to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

Here is when and where you can catch his chance to ride into the record books.

Predictions

I'll Have Another is going to pull off this elusive feat. He has the style custom made for this race. In both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, he flashed a closing kick that was unmatched. His strong finishes are a sight to behold.

It remains to be seen who he will be racing against, but it isn't going to matter. This horse has taken on an air of destiny, and he is entering the race he is best suited for, as the longer race is great for strong-finishing horses.

Another big thing I'll Have Another has going for him, is that he has been relatively lightly raced. This is huge, as he will be going in his third huge event in five weeks.

This means he will flash that marvelous finishing speed once again and race into history at Belmont Park.

I will be somewhat surprised if Derby and Preakness runner-up Bodemeister is in this field. The longer race does not suit his style.

Bodemeister is a horse that likes to get out to an early lead, but with the long Belmont, that is a doomed strategy.
