Preakness 2012 Results: Horses Primed to Win the Belmont Stakes
The 2012 Preakness results are in, and I'll Have Another has now completed the second leg of the coveted Triple Crown. He leads the list of horses who have the best chance to win at the Belmont Stakes on June 9, 2012.
It was a photo finish worthy of the best Hollywood script. Bodemeister led the entire way, just like he did at the Kentucky Derby. The biggest issue we wondered about heading into the race was whether or not I'll Have Another would be able to kick into his top gear with enough track left to beat him on the shorter track at Pimlico Race Course.
It turned out to be a non-issue, as I'll Have Another decided he wasn't going to let a bit of distance ruin his shot at the Triple Crown and won by a nose.
He will have an excellent chance to win at Belmont. Belmont Field features an even longer track than Churchill Downs, at a full mile-and-a-half, and from what we've seen so far of this colt the longer the track, the better chance he'll have to win.
Here are the other two horses that will have an excellent chance to win the Belmont Stakes.
Creative Cause
This colt finished the Kentucky Derby in fifth place and then followed up that strong effort with a third-place finish at the Preakness.
He's a strong horse with the kind of endurance that could be effective over the long haul of such a long race. He's a dangerous horse that could give I'll Have Another a run for his money at Belmont.
Went the Day Well
This horse came in to the Preakness as one of the favorites and one would have to assume that he'll be ready to handle the pressure of New York. He did not have the strong showing many anticipated at the Preakness, coming in 10th place, but rest assure that he will be towards the top at the Belmont Stakes.
Here are the top finishers and their payouts of this year's Preakness Stakes.
