Preakness 2012 Video: Recapping Top Moments from Exciting Triple Crown Race

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Preakness Stakes is in the books with I'll Have Another completing another epic sprint down the backstretch.

It was an incredible race highlighted by great moments throughout.

All eyes were on I'll Have Another from the get go and the biggest moment in the race came with his victory, by a nose. I'll Have Another's epic closing stretch can be seen here.

The stretch looks eerily similar to I'll Have Another's tremendous finish at the Kentucky Derby a couple weeks ago. The race at Pimlico, however, was somewhat anticlimactic before I'll Have Another's glorious run to the finish.

Bodemeister and I'll Have Another both shot out of the gate strong, with Bodemeister leading the majority of the race. Creative Cause was a narrow second.

Then, I'll Have Another kicked things into high gear.

He used momentum from the first turn of the race to slingshot to the front of the pack. Breaking from the outside, I'll Have Another chased down Bodemeister for the second time in two Triple Crown contests, as the crowd, and trainer Doug O'Neill, went wild.

A Triple Crown performance is a rare feat, and the incredible comeback makes the 137th annual Preakness Stakes one for the ages.

With the Preakness Stakes in the books, many of the same conclusions from Churchill Downs can be drawn.

Bodemeister is a very strong horse, but I'll Have Another is a very, very strong closer.

I'll Have Another will move onto the Belmont Stakes, looking to secure his Triple Crown season on June 9th.
