HP Byron Nelson 2012: Jonas Blixt Will Seize Control in Round 3
The HP Byron Nelson's third round is underway. Jonas Blixt is currently five under par through 13 holes, putting him one stroke behind the leaders Dickie Price and Keegan Bradley.
Blixt is currently ranked No. 103 in the world. Winning this tournament would surely improve his ranking.
Blixt's three birdies and an eagle on the 11th hole have him primed for victory in this year's HP Byron Nelson.
Let's take a look at Blixt's game and his chances at victory in tomorrow's fourth round.
Blixt's Game
Blixt is still developing his touch on the golf course. He has made seven out of 12 cuts this year with one top 10 finish.
So far in the HP Byron Nelson, Blixt is driving the ball 290-plus yards on average. He has hit 58-percent of fairways off the tee.
Blixt has birdied eleven holes in the first three rounds. He has also landed one eagle and knocked in four bogies.
Blixt relies on his mid-range and short game to win. He is a powerful, but sporadic, driver.
He must maintain his hot start on the TPC Four Seasons Resort course, but Blixt is certainly skilled enough to grab this year's trophy.
Fourth Round
Blixt has not played any hole on the course particularly bad, and has corrected his errors as each round passes.
He has not bogeyed the same hole twice, making sure that he learns from his mistakes in preparation to storm the top of the leaderboard.
Learning from mistakes and riding early momentum usually bodes well for upstart competitors in any sport. Keegan Bradley, currently in second place, is more accomplished than Blixt, but that doesn't matter.
Having nothing to lose is a good thing sometimes. Blixt can play his game, not worry and continue his ascent.
This tournament is still wide open, but Blixt's accuracy on the green and approach shots make him a tough player to pick against at this point.
