Amir Khan Opponent: Danny Garcia Out, Erik Morales or Devon Alexander July 7th?

Henry MartinJun 3, 2018

Amir Khan has been looking high and low for a new opponent to face now that Lamont Peterson will no longer be his opponent due to testing positive for synthetic testosterone. There was a slight possibility in the past of the fight carrying on, but when new evidence came into light and Lamont Peterson further admitted to using it in the first fight, the rematch had no possibility of ever happening.

Since then, Khan and his team have been campaigning to have Peterson stripped and have the IBF and WBA belts returned to Khan with the first fight being changed to a no contest.

July 7th is the new date being targeted by Khan and the first person he had in mind was newly crowned WBC champion Danny Garcia. This was a fight both fighters want and could have easily been made had it not been for Khan's lack of belts and Garcia's mandatory, Ajose Olusegun.

A Khan and Garcia bout could have taken priority over the mandatory fight if Khan had his belts and the fight was for unification. Since Khan hasn't been given his belts back yet, the fight wouldn't be a unification.

That throws Garcia out the window of a possible opponent and Khan is back to square one.

One of Khan's close friends recently disclosed Via twitter two possible names being thrown around:

"

"Saj Mohamed ‏@saj23x

team talking crazy numbers.. July 7th is set! Could be Alexander or Morales now "

"

It appears that the two men being targeted now is Devon Alexander and Erik Morales.

Devon Alexander is the best possible option for the fight and would be far more competitive than Morales would have. Even though Morales put up a good fight, he was beaten and knocked down in a loss to Danny Garcia.

If Erik Morales was called up, it's only because they want to sell out the seats of the Honda Center using the name of Morales.

Alexander moved up to welterweight, although he's yet to fight a welterweight, and has looked impressive.

If this fight were to happen, it'd be a great fight for fans with fast exchanges and flurries of punches.
