Preakness Stakes 2012: 3 Horses Sure to Outshine I'll Have Another
I'll Have Another had an exciting win at the Kentucky Derby but other horses will be looking to take their turn at victory during the Preakness Stakes.
With a talented field, the Derby champion will face plenty of competition as it rounds the 1-3/16 miles race course at Pimlico.
Here are the three horses that pose the biggest threat to I'll Have Another.
Bodemeister: 8-5 odds
Bodemeister is trained by the iconic Bob Baffert and will be jockeyed by Mike Smith.
Add an impressive pedigree to that, and this is a fantastic race horse who deserves to be the favorite.
This team took Bodemesiter to a second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby. Victory was so close two weeks ago, and this thoroughbred will be poised to finish the job this time around.
Went the Day Well: 8-1 odds
Went the Day Well overcame a slow start at the Kentucky Derby to finish fourth at Churchill Downs. If this horse comes out of the gate a little quicker, its closing speed will make it a serious threat to win the race.
Trainer Graham Motion won the Derby last year with Animal Kingdom and hopes to pick up another Triple Crown victory in 2012.
Went the Day Well seems to get better in every race, and if that trend continues, this horse will be the toast of Maryland on Saturday.
Creative Cause: 8-1 odds
Creative Cause always shows up on race days. This horse had never finished lower than third before the Kentucky Derby and did itself no disservice by finishing fifth at Churchill Downs.
In the past year, Creative Cause has beaten both Bodemeister and I'll Have Another, the two favorites at the Preakness.
One can never count out a horse that consistently finishes this well. This thoroughbred is poised to make horse racing fans wait another year to see a Triple Crown winner.
