Nicholas GossMay 18, 2012

Post positions can have a significant impact on who wins at the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday.

When choosing which horses to bet on, it's important to look at where the favorites are positioned, and how horses have fared at that position in past races.

Let's look at three horses to bet on since the post positions were released.

Went The Day Well - 12/1

Went The Day Well is looking to rebound after a poor Kentucky Derby performance at Churchill Downs and was lucky to draw the No. 5 post position for this year's Preakness race.

This horse will try to become the second straight winner at Pimlico from post position No. 5. With a strong start out of the gate, Went the Day Well could be a major threat to end I'll Have Another's chances of winning the Triple Crown.

Bodemeister - 3/1

Bodemeister will be many people's favorite to win the Preakness after narrowly missing out on the Kentucky Derby victory, and he will start out of the No. 7 post position.

With his incredible speed and burst out of the gate, a strong start for Bob Baffert's horse could spell doom for the rest of the field.

You don't want your horse to be in a sprint with Bodemeister, that's not a recipe for success.

I'll Have Another - 3/1

The Kentucky Derby winner will start near the outside of the track at post position No. 9 as he tries to take another step toward history.

I'll Have Another has the talent to make up for a slow start, but he cannot afford to bump with other horses along the side of the track and still gain ground.

A clean, crisp start for I'll Have Another will be key to his chances of winning the second leg of the Triple Crown.
