2012 Preakness TV Schedule: When and Where to Catch Second Leg of Triple Crown
Baltimore exposes flukes.
In the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the nation will witness which horses truly possess special top-end speed and which simply got lucky in the Kentucky Derby. Missing the 2012 Preakness Stakes will ruin your summer.
To watch it live, tune into NBC on Saturday, May 19th. At 4:00 p.m. EDT, the station will begin its live coverage of the event. Post time is approximately at 6:05 p.m. EDT.
The 137th running of the Preakness Stakes is headlined by two horses: Bodemeister and I’ll Have Another, who’ll start in the No. 7 and No. 9 post positions, respectively.
Bodemeister is the Preakness favorite. After exploding out to an early lead at Churchill Downs two weeks ago, he ran out of gas, falling victim to a miraculous finish by I’ll Have Another. But Bodemeister still deserves to be favored. In his three career races, he’s never finished worse than second place.
The horse is trained by the legendary Bob Baffert, who’s won the Preakness five times—the third-most wins by a trainer in the race’s history.
I’ll Have Another’s trainer, Doug O’Neill, isn’t intimidated, though. According to Preakness.com, O’Neill said after post positions were drawn:
"I’m confident. You never know, but as long as we continue to train like our horse has trained, we won’t be that far off Bodemeister. If anything, Bodemeister might be behind us early. I could see him chasing us, I really could.
"
He also touched on the fact that Bodemeister is favored despite I’ll Have Another’s triumph two weeks ago: “Bob Baffert has won five of these; I’ve never run a horse here. I totally respect that. I’m just hoping that anyone who bets Bodemeister is regretting it Saturday night.”
I’ll Have Another is ironically on quite a streak. Only once has he finished outside the top two. The horse will ride a three-race winning streak into Saturday, where he’ll without a doubt be thinking Triple Crown.
