Preakness Draw 2012: Which Horses Grabbed Best Post Positions?

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The post position of the 2012 Preakness has been released, and there are three horses that jump off the page as the big winners of the draw.

There will only be 11 horses in this year’s race, meaning post position isn’t going to mean a whole lot, but there are still clear-cut winners that have watched their odds rise with the news.

No.1 Tiger Walk: 20/1

The three-year-old has yet to win an event in 2012, but he does have a third-place finish at the Grad 1 Wood Memorial back in April.

His two victories last year came on tracks that were a mile long, which bodes well for the short course at Pimlico.

Landing the No. 1 spot will give him the rail, and essential eliminate the chance of getting caught up in the crowd.

The odds have jumped way up on this colt for a reason.

No. 2 Teeth of the Dog: 20/1

The No. 2 post position is huge for Teeth of the Dog.

The very inexperienced colt didn’t begin racing until late 2011 and is extremely unpredictable in a cluster.

Drawing a position so close to the rail is the only way he could win, and now this 20/1 long shot sounds a lot better than before.

No. 8 Daddy Nose Best

While traditionally the No. 8 post position isn’t great, for some reason it has been aces at the Preakness.

War Emblem won the event in 2002 and Bernardini took home the title 2006. Since 2000, only the No. 4 position has seen two winners.

This sprinter certainly has the skills and experience to win the race, and now he has a favorable position as well.
