WWE Over the Limit 2012: Predicting Standout Moments from Event UFC Style

Brian MaziqueJun 3, 2018

It would be awesome to see UFC-style nightly awards given out for WWE events. Allowing the fans to vote on the favorites would make it even better. Some WWE fans are also fans of the UFC, and there are obvious similarities; so many are familiar with the awards I'm referring to.

If not, here's a quick breakdown of each award, the WWE equivalent, and my prediction for the superstars who would win each award at Over the Limit.

Submission of the Night

It's pretty self-explanatory—the fighter who scores the coolest submission maneuver of the night wins the award. Every UFC event doesn't feature a submission, but in the events where one takes place, this applies.

The same would be the case for WWE pay-per-views, but in this event, a submission victory is very possible. The CM Punk-Daniel Bryan match for the WWE Championship features two of the industry's premier submission holds: Bryan's Yes Lock and Punk's Anaconda Vise.

Who will lock on their submission hold and force the other to tap out?

I'm picking Punk to win by submission, and because there probably won't be another submission win at the event, he'd win the Submission of the Night award.

Knockout of the Night

Another self-explanatory award—the fighter who scores the most vicious KO of the night wins the award. Customarily, a KO is not an official ending for a WWE match, and though there have been exceptions, a more pro wrestling-appropriate spin would be the Finisher of the Night.

We will genuinely see a finishing move in every WWE match, but the coolness of the move is dictated by the setup and execution.

My vote for this completely make-believe award would be Randy Orton. For some reason, I believe he's going to win the World Heavyweight Title by awesome RKO. I'm not saying which of his three opponents (Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Chris Jericho) will fall victim, but I predict it will happen.

Orton usually sets this move up well, and in a Fatal Four-Way, there are so many cool scenarios for him to pull it off. I think the Viper will strike in spectacular fashion.

Fight of the Night

There isn't much to the explanation of these UFC awards; they're simply given to the best fight of the event. It's also an easy translation to the WWE: It equates to the most entertaining match of the night.

In this event, I'd have to go back to the Punk vs. Bryan match. These guys not only have awesome submission maneuvers, but they are just great in the ring overall.

This match should feature some of the best work of the event, and it pits two fan favorites against each other.

In case the WWE decides to steal my idea, I'm not mad, but remember where you read it.
