WWE Diva Diagnosis: How Should the Divas Be Booked at Over the Limit and Beyond?

Drake OzMay 16, 2012

One thing we know for sure: At this Sunday’s Over the Limit pay-per-view, Layla will defend her Divas Championship against Beth Phoenix

Beyond that, no one can really tell what is going to happen in the Divas division, if anything interesting happens at all.

Still, the Divas title match between Beth and Layla is one that should and likely will lay the foundation for the division as we head into the summer.

The result of the match is probably going to have a ripple effect that impacts the Divas storylines throughout the next few months.

Naturally, that leads me to ask: Who should win?

At least so far, Layla has received very lukewarm reactions as a baby face, and I could see why the WWE creative team would want to take the title off her.

However, with such a thin Divas division, I think it’s best if Layla holds the title for a little while longer.

Having Layla lose the title so quickly after winning it would completely kill the little momentum she has. Therefore, giving her the victory over Beth Phoenix on Sunday could lead to a better story.

Here's how would I book the Divas division over the next several months:

I would let Layla retain the Divas Championship on Sunday, but only after Beth “reinjures” her ankle and is unable to finish the match, thus leaving open the possibility that she gets a rematch down the road.

While Beth is unable to compete for a while, I’d have AJ—who seems to be gradually turning heel—continue her rampage on the WWE and step up to become Layla’s No. 1 contender.

Ultimately, this would lead to AJ beating Layla for the Divas title at No Way Out and retaining the belt the next night on Raw. After AJ successfully retains on Raw, Kharma returns, nails AJ with the Implant Buster and signals that she’s now going to go after the Divas Championship.

Kharma would go on to challenge AJ for the Divas title at Money in the Bank and win the belt. Beth would then return from injury on the following Raw and say that she is the next rightful challenger for the Divas Championship.

Beth and AJ would go back and forth about who deserves to get a title shot at Kharma. However, in an eventual match set up by John Laurinaitis, Beth would beat AJ one-on-one to earn the title shot.

This would set up Kharma vs. Beth for the Divas Championship in a must-see match at SummerSlam.

Do I think that any of this will really happen? Probably not.

However, with Beth’s bum ankle, AJ’s gradual heel turn and the likely upcoming return of Kharma, there are a lot of ingredients for some entertaining TV from the Divas over the next few months.

The catch, however, is obviously that the creative team will probably never put this much effort into the Divas division.

Oh well. A guy can dream.
