WWE Over the Limit 2012: Complete Card, Live Stream, Predictions and More

Tim DanielsMay 16, 2012

Some interesting storylines have been developing in recent weeks as the WWE prepares for Over the Limit on Sunday night. It's not one of the year's marquee pay-per-views, but the build should make for a solid show nevertheless.

The most common theme has been people losing their jobs. Between Big Show getting fired, Brock Lesnar quitting and John Laurinaitis fighting to remain general manager, a lot of things have changed. It's all storyline, of course, but the idea has made a quick build more impactful.

Elite superstars such as CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton and John Cena will all be featured. Even fan favorite Zack Ryder was able to work his way onto the card, albeit on the pre-show. So there should be no shortage of crowd involvement, making for a better show.

Main Event Preview and Prediction

The WWE has done everything in its power to make it look like the odds have been stacked against Laurinaitis in his match against Cena, whose arm has magically healed. By banning superstars from helping Big Johnny, it would seem like he doesn't have a chance.

There are several loopholes, though. Since Lesnar quit the company, he's technically not a superstar. The same goes for Big Show, who was fired. Both of those guys could help Laurinaitis win without further repercussions. Big Show would do it as a way to get his job back.

A third option would be having a stable of lesser-known superstars coming out to help Laurinaitis. They would all get fired, but it would ultimately set up a storyline similar to something like the Nexus. Big Johnny is going to get some help one way or another.

They have to be careful with the booking of the match, because Cena just defeated Lesnar last month, so he must look strong in defeat. I fully expect Laurinaitis to win, it's just a matter of what route they use to make it happen.

Prediction: John Laurinaitis

What They’re Saying

Cena has some fun with Laurinaitis on Raw before their encounter on Sunday:

Eve Torres has been serving as Laurinaitis' sidekick lately, and used Twitter to stand by her new boss:

"

Despite what anyone may say, I have 100% faith in @WWERawGM at Over the Limit. He's the man in power for a reason. #PeoplePower.

— Eve Torres (@EveMarieTorres) May 15, 2012"

Undercard Match to Watch: CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are longtime friends and always put on a terrific show when they wrestle against each other. Fans should remember a couple memorable champion vs. champion matches earlier in the year that stole the show.

After his huge push in recent months, it would be a shocker if Punk dropped the WWE title at any point before SummerSlam. That said, the creative team has introduced AJ into the storyline in order to create some doubt.

All told, Punk and Bryan will undoubtedly have the best pure wrestling match of the night with some great spots along the way. Look for Punk to retain his title once again, stretching his reign to more than 180 days, the longest since Triple H in 2008.

Prediction: CM Punk

Which Star Will WWE Bury? Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio has been made to look weak throughout the entire fatal-four-way feud, taking finishers from all three of his opponents at one point. Giving him the victory after such a terrible build would be a surprise, and a major mistake.

His gimmick has gone stale. The WWE really should have considered a character shift when he returned from injury because it's clear he doesn't get enough heat from the crowd to ever become a top-flight heel in his current capacity.

After Over the Limit, the best thing for him would be to get sent into a mid-card storyline where he develops into something other than the Mexican aristocrat. He has the look Vince McMahon loves in a superstar, but things need to change for him to remain atop the card.

Star Unaccounted For: Brock Lesnar

Lesnar was never expected to wrestle a full schedule in his return to the WWE, so the quitting angle has bought him some time before his next storyline. Adding Paul Heyman to the mix to do his talking has been a brilliant move since Lesnar has so much trouble on the mic.

As mentioned above, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Lesnar interfere in the main event as a way to get back at Cena, who beat him at Extreme Rules last month. That would help him make a gigantic impact while still taking some time off.

Once he's ready to return, a feud with Triple H has started brewing. That should make for plenty of intrigue over the summer when WWE usually goes through a minor dip before SummerSlam.
