Robin Van Persie: Arsenal Star's Top 5 Goals in 2012

Robin van Persie was simply unstoppable in 2012.

Teams around the world struggled to contain his speed, power and finishing skills as the Arsenal striker netted 36 goals in 44 appearances.

The Dutchman was rewarded for his efforts throughout the season with the PFA Player of the Year award and Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award.

He was also awarded the Golden Boot for being the highest goal scorer in the English Premier League. Here are the five best ones.

5. Robin Van Persie vs. Manchester United

Kicking off our list is this excellent finish against Manchester United—a huge goal considering the context of the game.

And whilst the Red Devils would go on to steal a 2-1 victory, Robin van Persie's inch-perfect finish still remains one of his goals of the season.

4. Robin Van Persie vs. Borussia Dortmund

Lost perhaps in the incredible buildup by Alex Song is Robin van Persie's very difficult header in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Song should still receive immense praise for the assist, but Van Persie's finish with the outside of his head whilst falling backwards must also receive the credit it's due.

3. Robin Van Persie vs. Liverpool

With the scores locked at 1-1 in injury time, Robin van Persie's effort to win all three points for Arsenal against Liverpool was arguably his biggest goal of the season.

His ability to time his run, let the ball drop over his shoulder and beat Pepe Reina at the near post at such a pivotal moment shows again the Dutch striker's incredible skill.

2. Robin Van Persie vs. Tottenham

After trailing 2-0 against Tottenham, Arsenal set the Emirates alight with their thrilling 5-2 victory—the highlight of which was Robin van Persie's incredible turn and finish to level the scores at 2-2.

Technically speaking, it was a very tough goal to score, but Van Persie made it look incredibly easy.

Robin van Persie's greatest goal of the 2012 season must surely be his strike that secured victory for Arsenal over Everton.

Similar to his goal against Liverpool, Van Persie timed his run and let the ball drop over his shoulder—this time hitting it at full stride.

Airborne at the point of impact, the Gunners striker displayed all the skills—power, accuracy, composure—to score what was without a doubt his greatest goal in 2012.
