UFC on Fuel 3 Results: 3 Fights for Igor Pokrajac to Take Next

Andrew SaundersJun 7, 2018

After a highly entertaining fight with Fabio Maldonado, Igor Pokrajac has shown us that his chin is made of granite. The win was the third in a row for the Croatian striker, whose sole loss in his last five bouts came at the hands of Stephan Bonnar in late 2010.

Commentator Jon Anik stated during the contest that Pokrajac has never been knocked down in six UFC appearances. Considering some of the heavy hands in the light-heavyweight division, let's see if we can find anyone who might be up for a challenge.

Here are three fights that Igor Pokrajac should take next.

Stanislav Nedkov

1 of 3

Stanislov Nedkov holds the distinction of being the only foreigner to walk out of Brazil with a win under his belt back at UFC 134. In his Octagon debut, he stunned Luiz Cane with punches late in the first round.

Like Pokrajac, Nedkov likes to strike, having recorded half of his professional victories via TKO.

Nedkov has a black belt in jiu-jitsu; however, Pokrajac is no slouch on the ground, with eight submission wins throughout his career. This fight would be fireworks on the feet but competitive if it were to hit the canvas.

Cyrille Diabate

2 of 3

Like Pokrajac, Diabate is a light-heavyweight who prefers to stand and show off his flashy striking abilities. Unlike Pokrajac, he has not been able to showcase these skills based on the grappling tendencies of many of his UFC opponents.

The Snake stands at 6'6" and is a PRIDE vet who shares cage time with Shogun Rua. This fight is the type of pairing that fans love to see, regardless of the name value of the fighters involved.

Brandon Vera

3 of 3

Once a top contender in the heavyweight division, Brandon Vera appeared to be on a path towards gold that couldn't be interrupted.

Granted, we know that the story didn't end the way that we predicted it, but it speaks to the level on which we know Vera can compete.

Vera holds a win over Frank Mir and would hold another over Randy Couture were it not for an awful decision at UFC 105. With dynamite striking and no intention to grapple, a fight with Pokrajac would allow The Truth to showcase his talents without being stuck with a wrestler.

Stand and bang? Absolutely!
