Epico and Primo's Tag Title Run: How the WWE Failed Them

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

Epico and Primo won the tag team titles on January 15th and held them for nearly four months before losing the belts to Kofi Kingston and R-Truth.

Having held the titles for that long, you would think that Epico and Primo would have been featured more on WWE television as the champions.

Since the build-up to WrestleMania happened to be right in the middle of their run, they were pushed aside and not featured regularly on TV or on PPVs.

They began to make their voices heard through Twitter, demanding PPV matches and more attention to the tag-team division.

It seems that WWE agreed with everything except the part about featuring Epico and Primo. Now WWE has half a dozen tag teams, and there is a tag-title match on a PPV which they will not be featured in.

Epico and Primo are talented wrestlers who were locked into a tag team once WWE realized they had no singles plans for either man.

Since pairing up, they have had little more success than they had as singles wrestlers in regards to exposure, which is sad given how WWE could have used them.

Had Epico and Primo been paired up with the Usos for a feud, it could have helped the division a lot. Putting two teams with the kind of potential these four men have in a feud can only lead to good things.

Both teams have significant family history in the business as well, providing the built-in framework for a great feud.

If creative had bothered to put them in more matches and given them the chance to show the WWE universe what they were really capable of, then their run as champions would not have been so bad.

Epico and Primo did not fail as tag-team champions—the people booking the division failed them.

Why put the belts on a team unless you are going to feature them prominently? Epico and Primo are both young superstars with a lot of time to succeed, but WWE needs to give them the chance to do that.

I hope the team remains together and WWE does not decide to split them for no reason like they did with The Hart Dynasty, because they are good enough to be a popular tag team if given the opportunity.
