Amile Jefferson Decision: Top Recruit Will Be Instant Favorite at Duke

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

As the only remaining Top 25 recruit who had yet to sign, Amile Jefferson had been attracting plenty of buzz leading up to his decision on Tuesday.

When all was said and done, he signed with the Duke Blue Devils, and he's a great fit.

Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com tweeted on Tuesday:

Duke just picked up Amile Jefferson.

Jefferson should be an instant favorite at Duke, both among fans and his teammates, not to mention Mike Krzyzewski. Beyond his size, athleticism, shooting touch and length, Jefferson has a great motor and is a very determined, focused basketball player. He's also a very heady player, the type of player who should be able to pick up the college game quickly under Coach K.

Right now, Jefferson is primarily a player who excels at crashing to the rim, but with some work on his perimeter game, he could potentially step in at small forward for the Blue Devils if that's where he's needed. He also needs to fill out his 6'7", 190-pound frame, but that should come in time.

The bottom line is that Jefferson is a very competitive, driven individual who should instantly win fans over with his work ethic and ability to play within the game. He rarely forces shots, and he's unlikely to be overwhelmed from the get-go.

Any team loves a player like this, but it seems almost required at Duke—that's why it's not a surprise that Jefferson signed with the Blue Devils. He's a very good fit there, and now he has the opportunity to learn from one of the best in Krzyzewski.

It won't take long for Jefferson to become a big piece in Duke's run at the title moving forward.
