Ty Isaac: Coveted Recruit Fits Perfectly with USC Trojans
USC knows a thing or two about star running backs so it should come as no surprise that Ty Isaac, the No. 1 recruit at the position, committed to play for the Trojans today.
The Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Illinois) star made the news official himself today tweeting:
"Committed to The University of Southern California
— Ty Isaac (@TyIsaac) May 15, 2012"
The 6'3", 215-pound back holds scholarship offers from countless programs across the country.
Michigan and Notre Dame were both heavily involved in the chase for the 5-star recruit, but Isaac chose to move out West rather than staying local. He was quoted by Mike Clark of the Sun-Times Media saying:
""I just got out on campus and loved everything about it. The players, the coaches, the people around the program, everything they took me through. I knew it was the right fit."
"When I saw myself not playing football, that's where I saw myself. It's a great education. And it's Tailback U."
"
He's certainly right about Tailback U--Marcus Allen, Charles White, O.J. Simpson, Reggie Bush, Anthony Davis, LenDale White, Mike Garrett, Ricky Bell, Frank Gifford just to a name a few--all starred in Southern California.
Isaac primarily plays as a wing back for Joliet so there is possibly no program for him to learn how to be a legitimate tailback.
His combination of size, speed and athleticism are ideal for what the Trojans want in an every-down back and he's a tremendously gifted receiver out of the backfield.
He's the sixth commit in the 2013 USC class and Lane Kiffin's staff didn't sign a running back in the 2012 class either. The transfer of Amir Carlisle this winter made running back a big need for the Trojans and they filled it in a big, big way.
