Preakness Draw 2012: Contenders That Today's Post Position Draw Will Impact Most

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

The post position draw for the 2012 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico will be taking place quite shortly. HRTV will cover it live from the track at 5 p.m. ET today—Wednesday, May 16.

As usual, there are odds set by many different outlets for the 14 horses participating in the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Here are a few that are bound to switch depending on their starting gate.

Brimstone Island – 30/1

No one respects Brimstone Island and he is okay with that. He started out doing $7,500 claim races and has worked his way into Triple Crown form.

With a career record of 10-4-3-1, this horse has some potential to shock the world. If he were given a great starting spot, it would not be all that unlikely. Expect the odds to drop drastically if that happens.

Teeth of the Dog – 20/1

This horse is extremely lightly raced and has been showing constant improvement. The odds are likely low right now as many bettors have not found much information on him.

We do know he will be ridden by Joe Bravo, a world class jockey with a respectable career record of 4-1-1-2, who finished his maiden in third in a race in which Gemologist won.

If he gets a better post and people start getting more information, Teeth of the Dog’s odds are going down.

Bodemeister – 3/1

Bodemeister is the favorite right now, but a bad starting gate could knock him behind I’ll Have Another and possibly Creative Cause and Went the Day Well.

He has been ran nearly into the ground over the past few weeks and many smart handicappers are going to avoid this horse. He might just not have anything left in the tank.

If the big money starts moving away from Bodemeister, his odds will go up after the draw.
