2012 Preakness Horses: I'll Have Another and Best Potential Names in Field

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

We were fortunate enough this year to see a horse with a fantastic name win the Kentucky Derby.

I'll Have Another's come-from-behind win in the 138th Run for the Roses cemented his place in the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico and gave us something to think about in regard to other horses with great names.

While the field is still being set and it is unlikely any horse will have a better name than the Derby winner himself, here's a look at other potential horses with great names.

Teeth of the Dog

This three-year-old colt is confirmed for the race and was sired by Bluegrass Cat.

He comes into this race as only a one-time winner, but he's finished in the money in each of his four starts.

Aside from his racing ability, he offers an exciting name to play with and you can be sure he'll attract attention.

Tiger Walk

Also confirmed for this race, the three-year-old colt sired by Tale of the Cat is looking for his first win of the year.

In seven career starts, he's won twice but only finished in the money three times—he's also finished fourth three times.

But his name, well, that leaves almost nothing to be desired.

Guyana Star Dweej

Another confirmed horse in this race, the three-year-old colt's name has quite a bit of meaning. Dweej is a Hindu word meaning "twice born" while Guyana Star was a horse that won 52 races for trainer Doodnauth Shivmangal, according to the Preakness website.

A first or second-place finisher in six of his nine career races, there is a lot to like about this horse sired by Eddington.
