Kellen Moore: Former Boise State QB's Resume Won't Save Him in NFL

Kellen Moore had a 50-3 career record at Boise State, but he wasn't selected in the 2012 NFL draft because teams didn't feel he and his skill set could translate well to the pros.

After the Detroit Lions' rookie camp, Moore has failed to answer those concerns, and he's in danger of not making the team altogether.

Moore's biggest questions are his height, arm strength and mechanics. He stands at 6'0", and drops the football back below his shoulders before he throws, thereby elongating his release. He has an accurate arm, but that is only part of the equation for an NFL quarterback.

QB Kellen Moore's passing improved during Detroit's rookie mini-camp practice Sunday, but his performance over the three-day orientation left a lot to be desired. Moore wasn't consistent in drills, and his effort gave credence to questions surrounding his arm strength that saw him go undrafted.

Moore is a smart football player—he showed that much at Boise State. But while being a smart player may overcome his short stature, his arm strength is still highly questionable, and his mechanics may be the most troubling of all.

Sure, not every solid quarterback in the NFL has outstanding arm strength, but most of them at least have a quick release. Mechanics can be taught, but Moore has been using the same throwing technique for so long that it would take a lot of work to get accustomed to new mechanics.

In addition, with no guarantee that the Lions will even carry three QBs into the season, according to coach Jim Schwartz, that does not bode well for Moore's immediate future in the league.

We've seen plenty of players star in college, only to go on to the NFL and tank. There's a reason why Moore wasn't drafted this year, and he has yet to prove teams wrong.
