Cisse played a crucial role in lifting the Magpies to a fifth-place finish in the English Premier League and a spot in the UEFA Europa League. He put through 13 goals in 14 appearances while paired with fellow Senegal international Demba Ba after arriving from Freiburg in January.
He'd be an excellent transfer target for any club with deep pockets and the need for another goalscoring presence.
Madrid certainly have the former, but the latter? Not so much. The new champions of La Liga already sport three players (Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain) who scored more than 20 goals this season and four (Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria) who contributed at least nine assists.
And that's not including the likes of Jose Callejon, Kaka and Sami Khedira, all fantastic players who saw the pitch only sparingly on Jose Mourinho's watch.
It would seem, then, that Madrid will be just fine without Papiss Cisse.
At least, until the next time Sergio Ramos lines up for a penalty kick.
