Manny Pacquiao: Why We Should Be Ecstatic Pac-Man Has No Plans to Retire

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has come out and said that he may retire after his impressive victory against Miguel Cotto.

Whether you believe him or not, one thing is clear: Manny Pacquiao has no plans to retire anytime soon.

And we should be ecstatic.

There are concerns that the 33-year-old is wearing down after his narrow win (loss?) against Juan Manuel Marquez in November. He's one of the all-time greats, but, the reality is that boxers naturally recede as the years catch up to them.

But I still believe Pacquiao has plenty left. He may not be as dominant moving forward as he has been in the past, but, the fact of the matter is, it's never been about just speed and power with him. Pacquiao's a tremendous boxer, taught by one of the great trainers of this generation in Freddie Roach. His boxing skills alone will allow him to defend his welterweight title.

It also must be said that, while Pacquiao didn't look dominant against Marquez in November, don't forget that Marquez has always given him problems. Their previous two clashes were close. Sometimes a boxer's style (not to mention prowess) can make life difficult even for a legend in Pacquiao.

Even if Mayweather retires, we can be rest assured that we will still have a premier boxer in Pacquiao. Even if Mayweather-Pacquiao never happens, we can still watch Pacquiao outbox and outsmart his foes.

Because when you're a legendary boxer like Manny Pacquiao, it doesn't matter as much who you fight. What matters is that you are still fighting and giving the world another look at greatness with each and every fight.
