Can Robert Griffin III Keep Up with the Kardashians of the NFL?
Despite knowing it was going to happen for months, watching Robert Griffin III drafted by the Washington Redskins was like watching my younger brother get engaged to Kim Kardashian.
I'll explain.
I am a massive fan of RG3. His potential is worthy of every sports cliché Kiper, McShay and Mayock can conjure. He has Olympic-sprinter speed. He has a Call Of Duty-esque gun for an arm complete with a scope that allows him to target receivers 50 yards downfield with 'Oh-my-god-how-did-he-kill-me-from-there!?' accuracy. This is the talent the makers of Madden 2004 thought Michael Vick was.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
But potential is wasted without development. This is my worry.
Daniel Snyder has brought his tons of money to the Redskins and has managed to do nothing but shame a few Hall of Famers and keep the coaching carousel spinning like a turbine. This has turned the Redskins into the Kim Kardashian of the NFL: famous for infamy.
If Daniel Snyder is Kris Jenner, RG3 could potentially become just as big a joke as her daughters. I'm already bothered by the amount of times I'm seeing Robert Griffin's face in TV ads.
It's May.
This is Daniel Snyder's most important decision in his NFL-related career: create a reality-show star or a first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback.
The Washington DC football fan is dehydrated. They crave the days of old when John Riggins, Doug Williams and The Hogs were the best in the land. The drought since has left them parched. They're fickle.
Just two years ago Donovan McNabb was all but knighted on the White House lawn, now he's 31, close to debating Skip Bayless for a living.
The DC fanbase needs Dan Snyder to get this right, but that also may be every reason why he won't. Just like the Kardashians preying on teenage girls by offering them a 'So glam!' lifestyle, Daniel Snyder already has his profit margins expanding off jersey sales, hopes and dreams.
In order to surpass the materialistic and the superficial, Dan Snyder needs to find people he can trust.
Mike Shanahan had a great run with John Elway, but that was decades ago. I'm not sure he's evolved his coaching style to fit today's NFL.
His son, Kyle, is another massive concern. It was his inability to work with Donovan McNabb that became the main storyline of As The Redskins Turn with special guest appearances by Rex Grossman and some guy named John Beck. Snyder needs the Shanahan's to show they can evolve, but mainly he needs to show that if they don't, he will.
With league rules skewed to favor offense, and given the rookie season Cam Newton had, the expectations are stacked for RG3. He needs strong leadership and quality coaching to help him live up to, and exceed, those expectations.
As a fan of once in a lifetime athletes and a seeker of that which has never been seen before, I'm rooting for Robert Griffin III to maximize every ounce of his potential. I just wish I didn't have to keep up with the Kardashians of the NFL to see it.
