NFL Training Camp: Report Card Grades for Every NFL Roster Heading into Camp
With workouts slowly beginning around the league, teams across the NFL are getting a good idea of what kind of talent they'll have as they prepare for the 2012 season.
While the rosters are a long way from being set, now is a good time to gauge how each team's roster looks, including rookies and newly-signed undrafted free agents.
Here are report card grades for each NFL roster.
(Note: Undrafted free-agent signings are as reported by NFL.com, while AFC signings and NFC signings are from Pro Football Weekly.)
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 32Key Additions/Returners: G Adam Snyder, CB William Gay, S James Sanders
Key Departures: G Deuce Lutui, LB Clark Haggans, LB Joey Porter, DB Richard Marshall
Rookie Additions: WR Michael Floyd, CB Jamell Fleming, T Bobby Massie, OG Senio Kelemete, CB Justin Bethel, QB Ryan Lindley, T Nate Potter
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Stanley Arukwe, LB Broderick Binns, WR LaRon Byrd, G Braeden Clayson, FB Jared Crank, G Blake DeChristopher, DE Tevita Finau, S Blake Gideon, WR Tre Gray, LB Marcus McGraw, LB Zack Nash, CB James Nixon, DE Conrad Obi, LB Colin Parker, LB Paul Vassallo, C Scott Wedige, WR Marc Wilson
Outlook: The Arizona Cardinals have made some solid improvements across their lineup, especially in their secondary. However, the team's success will fall heavily on the play of quarterback Kevin Kolb.
The team has looked to make his job somewhat easier, drafting and signing new offensive line talent and adding wide receiver Michael Floyd to pair with All-Pro Larry Fitzgerald.
Grade: B
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 32Key Additions/Returners: CB Asante Samuel, LB Lofa Tatupu, S Thomas DeCoud
Key Departures: FB Ovie Mughelli, MLB Curtis Lofton, WR Eric Weems
Rookie Additions: G Peter Konz, OT Lamar Holmes, FB Bradie Ewing, DE Jonathan Massaquoi, S Charles Mitchell, DT Travian Robertson
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: TE Lamark Brown, WR Michael Calvin, LB Rico Council, QB Dominique Davis, S Chad Faulcon, RB Robbie Frey, LB Max Gruder, OT Bryce Harris, LB Jerrell Harris, LS Josh Harris, OL Tyler Horn, WR Marcus Jackson, DT Ray Kibble, G Phillip Manley, CB Marty Markett, TE Adam Nissley, DE Lewis Nzegwu, WR Cody Pearcy, DT Micanor Regis, WR James Rodgers, LB Pat Schiller, CB Peyton Thompson, P Dawson Zimmerman
Outlook: The Atlanta Falcons have used their offseason to add talent across the roster.
The drafting of Peter Konz and Lamar Holmes should do wonders for their line depth, while defensive free-agency additions like Asante Samuel and Lofa Tatupu should keep the team moving in the right direction (even with the painful loss of Curtis Lofton).
Grade: B+
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Jacoby Jones, QB Curtis Painter, CB Lardarius Webb
Key Departures: OG Ben Grubbs, WR Lee Evans, CB Domonique Foxworth
Rookie Additions: OLB Courtney Upshaw, T Kelechi Osemele, RB Bernard Pierce, G Gino Gradkowski, S Christian Thompson, CB Asa Jackson, WR Tommy Streeter, DE DeAngelo Tyson
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: C Chris Anzevino, QB John Brantley, CB Charles Brown, TE Lamont Bryant, OL James Carmon, OL Jack Cornell, FB Chard Diehl, FB Bruce Figgins, WR Devin Goda, WR Dorian Graham, DT Elliott Henigan, DT Nick Jean-Baptiste, LB Austin Johnson, DT Ishaa’ily Kitchen, OL Antoine McClain, OL Alfred McCullough, TE Nick Provo, S Cyhl Quarles, RB Bobby Rainey, WR Deonte Thompson
Outlook: The Baltimore Ravens may not have had the splashiest offseason, but they've added some nice young talent to complement a roster that is aging quickly.
Look for Courtney Upshaw to make some noise as a rookie. The re-signing of young cornerback Lardarius Webb was a smart move.
Grade: B
Buffalo Bills
4 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DE Mario Williams, DE Mark Anderson, QB Vince Young, WR Stevie Johnson
Key Departures: OT Demetress Bell, WR Roscoe Parrish, CB Drayton Florence
Rookie Additions: CB Stephon Gilmore, T Cordy Glenn, WR T.J. Graham, OLB Nigel Bradham, CB Ron Brooks, T Zebrie Sanders, OLB Tank Carder, OG Mark Asper, K John Potter
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: QB Aaron Corp, RB Chris Douglas, CB Cris Hill, S Delano Howell, OL Paul Madsen, P Shawn Powell, OL David Snow, DB Nick Sukay, DB Ian Wild, LB Garrick Williams
Outlook: The Buffalo Bills saw a weakness in their pass-rush and went all-out to solve their problems.
The signings of Mario Williams and Mark Anderson should produce immediate results. But the team still has problems in its secondary, even after the early drafting of Stephon Gilmore.
The team's offense should do fine and should like the contract extension for clear No. 1 receiver Stevie Johnson.
Grade: A- overall, D+ if Vince Young calls the Bills "The Dream Team."
Carolina Panthers
5 of 32Key Additions/Returners: RB Mike Tolbert, S Reggie Smith, LB Kenny Onatolu
Key Departures: WR Legedu Naanee, MLB Dan Connor, OG Travelle Wharton
Rookie Additions: LB Luke Kuechly, G Amini Silatolu, DE Frank Alexander, WR Joe Adams, CB Josh Norman, P Brad Nortman, S D.J. Campbell
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Brenton Bersin, OG Will Blackwell, DT Nate Chandler, WR Jared Green, WR Wes Kemp, TE Tarren Lloyd, RB Princeton McCarty, RB Tauren Poole, OT Matt Reynolds, RB Lyndon Rowells, DE Ryan Van Bergen, WR Rico Wallace
Outlook: The Carolina Panthers have all the talent necessary on offense, but still have major questions about the direction of their defense. First-round pick Luke Kuechly should start immediately, but the team is still lacking on the line itself.
Grade: C+
Chicago Bears
6 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Brandon Marshall, RB Michael Bush, QB Jason Campbell
Key Departures: DT Amobi Okoye, QB Caleb Hanie, S Brandon Meriweather
Rookie Additions: DE Shea McClellin, WR Alshon Jeffery, SS Brandon Hardin, FB Evan Rodriguez, CB Isaiah Frey, CB Greg McCoy
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: RB Alvester Alexander, T James Brown, DT Ronnie Cameron, LB Adrien Cole, S Trevor Coston, WR Terriun Crump, WR Britton Golden, T A.J. Greene, S Jeremy Jones, WR Chris Summers, LB Ronnie Thornton
Outlook: The Chicago Bears are looking to make the life of quarterback Jay Cutler easier, bringing in wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who should contribute immediately now that he's unlikely to face league discipline for an alleged offseason night club altercation now that he'll reportedly escape without charges. Michael Bush should do well in creating competition for fellow rusher Matt Forte.
The departure of Caleb Hanie is long overdue.
Grade: B
Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 32Key Additions/Returners: RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, CB Terence Newman, CB Jason Allen
Key Departures: WR Jerome Simpson, LB Keith Rivers, S Chris Crocker
Rookie Additions: CB Dre Kirkpatrick, G Kevin Zeitler, DT Devon Still, WR Mohamed Sanu, DT Brandon Thompson, TE Orson Charles, CB Shaun Prater, WR Marvin Jones, FS George Iloka, RB Dan Herron
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: C Ben Bojicic, DB Darrius Brooks, LB Vontaze Burfict, S Tony Dye, DB Bubba Forrest, QB Tyler Hansen, WR Justin Hilton, DE Brandon Joiner, S Emmanuel Lamur, DE Julian Miller, G Trevor Robinson, WR Taveon Rogers, RB Rodney Stewart, T Landon Walker
Outlook: The Cincinnati Bengals are loading up in the secondary and should have an overwhelming amount of talent at the position entering training camp. For a team that was a surprise contender in 2011, it's tough not to be excited to see how this team can do as a sequel.
Grade: B
Cleveland Browns
8 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DE Frostee Rucker, DE Juqua Parker, LB D'Qwell Jackson
Key Departures: RB Peyton Hillis, OT Tony Pashos, OT Steve Vallos
Rookie Additions: RB Trent Richardson, QB Brandon Weeden, T Mitchell Schwartz, DT John Hughes, WR Travis Benjamin, ILB James-Michael Johnson, G Ryan Miller, OLB Emmanuel Acho, DE Billy Winn, CB Trevin Wade, TE Brad Smelley
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: CB Mike Allen, OL Jake Anderson, CB Johnson Bademosi, OT Matt Cleveland, WR Josh Cooper, CB Emanuel Davis, LB L.J. Fort, C Garth Gerhart, S Tashaun Gipson, DE William Green, LB Josh Linum, CB Antwuan Reed, WR Bert Reed, G/C Trevor Robinson, WR Jermaine Saffold, OT J.B. Shugarts, LB Andrew Sweat
Outlook: The Cleveland Browns have a lot of questions on their roster, and this year's large draft class will have a big impact on the team's performance in 2012.
The addition of Brandon Weeden is far from a secure pick and took away from a chance to build at other positions the team desperately needed to handle.
Grade: D+
Dallas Cowboys
9 of 32Key Additions/Returners: CB Brandon Carr, OG Nate Livings, S Brodney Pool, ILB Dan Connor, QB Kyle Orton
Key Departures: WR Laurent Robinson, CB Terence Newman, ILB Bradie James
Rookie Additions: CB Morris Claiborne, DE Tyrone Crawford, OLB Kyle Wilber, S Matt Johnson, WR Danny Coale, TE James Hanna, ILB Caleb McSurdy
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: T Jeff Adams, OT Levy Adcock, WR Cole Beasley, WR Tim Benford, TE George Bryan, OT Taylor Dever, RB Lance Dunbar, G Harland Gunn, WR Saalim Hakim, LB Adrian Hamilton, LS Charley Hughlett, WR Donovan Kemp, G Ronald Leary, CB Isaac Madison, T Tyrone Novikoff, RB Darrell Scott, CB Lionel Smith, TE Andrew Szczerba, LB Aston Whiteside, S Eddie Whitley, CB Troy Woolfolk
Outlook: The Dallas Cowboys have turned their secondary, one of their weaknesses in 2011, into one of their likely strengths with the addition of Brandon Carr and draftee Morris Claiborne. Look for that duo to bring the ruckus against opposing pass attacks.
Grade: A-
Denver Broncos
10 of 32Key Additions/Returners: QB Peyton Manning, WR Brandon Stokley, TE Jacob Tamme
Key Departures: QB Tim Tebow, WR Eddie Royal, DE Derrick Harvey
Rookie Additions: DT Derek Wolfe, QB Brock Osweiler, RB Ronnie Hillman, CB Omar Bolden, C Philip Blake, DT Malik Jackson, OLB Danny Trevathan
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE Jamie Blatnick, LS Aaron Brewer, LB Elliot Coffey, LB Jerry Franklin, DB Duke Ihenacho, LB Steven Johnson, CB Coryell Judie, TE Anthony Miller, OT Mike Remmers, WR Gerell Robinson, G Wayne Tribue, G Austin Wuebbels
Outlook: For the Denver Broncos, it's all about Peyton Manning. If he can stay healthy and succeed, this team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. If he gets hurt, fans will rue the thought of dismissing Tim Tebow so hastily, even if it was necessary to ensure stability within the organization.
Grade: B
Detroit Lions
11 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DE/OLB Everette Brown, CB Jacob Lacey, WR Calvin Johnson, ILB Stephen Tulloch
Key Departures: OLB Bobby Carpenter, QB Drew Stanton, CB Eric Wright
Rookie Additions: OT Riley Reiff, WR Ryan Broyles, CB Dwight Bentley, DE Ronnell Lewis, OLB Tahir Whitehead, CB Chris Greenwood, CB Jonte Green, OLB Travis Lewis
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: G Rodney Austin, G Quinn Barham, K Derek Dimke, WR Patrick Edwards, TE Alex Gottlieb, ILB Carmen Messina, QB Kellen Moore, OL J.C. Oram, WR Tyler Shoemaker, LB Ronnie Sneed
Outlook: The Detroit Lions, already a Super Bowl contender, have added more pieces to make their chances even better.
Riley Reiff should be a steady contributor almost immediately, and Ryan Broyles should pair nicely with Calvin Johnson, who received a hefty new contract extension this offseason.
Grade: B+
Green Bay Packers
12 of 32Key Additions/Returners: C Jeff Saturday, DE Anthony Hargrove, TE Jermichael Finley
Key Departures: FS Nick Collins, QB Matt Flynn, CB Patrick Lee
Rookie Additions: DE Nick Perry, DT Jerel Worthy, CB Casey Hayward, DT Mike Daniels, SS Jerron McMillian, OLB Terrell Manning, OT Andrew Datko, QB B.J. Coleman
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE Drew Vanderlin, C/T Tommie Draheim, TE Eric Lair, T Don Barclay, RB Marc Tyler, OLB Dezman Moses, WR Darius Reynolds, S Sean Richardson, G Jaymes Brooks, OLB Jaymar Latchison, WR Dale Moss, RB Duane Bennett, TE Cameron Ford, RB Nicholas Cooper, WR Marcus Rivers, OL Tyler Butzler
Outlook: More defensive tools (Nick Perry, Jerel Worthy) and more stability on the line (Jeff Saturday). The Green Bay Packers will be riding high if these new additions can be even half as good as advertised before their arrival.
Grade: A
Houston Texans
13 of 32Key Additions/Returners: ILB Bradie James, PK Shayne Graham, P Donnie Jones
Key Departures: ILB DeMeco Ryans, WR Jacoby Jones, OLB Mario Williams
Rookie Additions: OLB Whitney Mercilus, WR DeVier Posey, OG Brandon Brooks, C Ben Jones, WR Keshawn Martin, DT Jared Crick, K Randy Bullock, OT Nick Mondek
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Mario Louis, WR Jerrell Jackson, WR Dwight Jones, FB Jason Ford, RB Davin Meggett, RB Jonathan Grimes, ILB Greg Williams, ILB Shawn Loiseau, OLB Dalano Johnson, OLB D.J. Bryant, S Eddie Pleasant, S Desmond Marrow, OT Nate Menkin, G Cody White, TE Phillip Supernaw, TE Logan Brock, DE David Hunter, DE Tracy Robertson, DE Rennie Moore, NT Loni Fangupo, QB Case Keenum
Outlook: The Houston Texans may not have the sexiest offseason additions, but the real factor in this team's improvement will be its recovery from injury.
Matt Schaub should be fully healthy again, along with wide receiver Andre Johnson. With those pieces in place, this team should be just fine.
Grade: B
Indianapolis Colts
14 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DL Cory Redding, WR Donnie Avery, RB Deji Karim
Key Departures: QB Peyton Manning, WR Pierre Garcon, RB Joseph Addai, C Jeff Saturday
Rookie Additions: QB Andrew Luck, TE Coby Fleener, TE Dwayne Allen, WR T.Y. Hilton, DT Josh Chapman, RB Vick Ballard, WR LaVon Brazill, OT Justin Anderson, DE Tim Fugger, QB Chandler Harnish
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE James Aiono, DT Chigbo Anunoby, OT Steven Baker, DB Cameron Chism, DE Kevin Eagan, DB Antonio Fenelus, OG Jason Foster, LB Chris Galippo, OG Hayworth Hicks, DB Buddy Jackson, S Matt Merletti, S Micah Pellerin, WR Jabin Sambrano, P Brian Stahovich, WR Griff Whalen
Outlook: The Indianapolis Colts have their quarterback of the future with Andrew Luck, and in due time, the offense may be able to put up some numbers. However, there are a lot of questions with this roster, the kind of questions that should lead to a lot of lost games.
Grade: C+
Jacksonville Jaguars
15 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Laurent Robinson, CB Aaron Ross, WR Lee Evans, DE Jeremy Mincey
Key Departures: WR Jarett Dillard, RB Deji Karim, DT Leger Douzable
Rookie Additions: WR Justin Blackmon, DE Andre Branch, P Bryan Anger, OLB Brandon Marshall, CB Mike Harris, DT Jeris Pendleton
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE Kendrick Adams, RB Joe Banyard, OT Lee Barbiasz, WR Jarrett Boykin, C Mike Brewster, DE Ryan Davis, CB Antonio Dennard, WR Kevin Elliott, G D.J. Hall, Jr., CB Dontrel Johnson, DT Drew Nowak, WR Nelson Rosario, LB J.K. Schaffer, LB Julian Stanford, DE Frank Trotter, TE Matt Veldman
Outlook: While the additions of Justin Blackmon and Laurent Robinson add some firepower for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense, it will mean nothing without improvement in year two with Blaine Gabbert. On a side note, Bryan Anger may have the best name in football.
Grade: B-
Kansas City Chiefs
16 of 32Key Additions/Returners: OT Eric Winston, QB Brady Quinn, TE Kevin Boss, RB Peyton Hillis
Key Departures: TE Leonard Pope, QB Kyle Orton, CB Brandon Carr
Rookie Additions: DT Dontari Poe, OT Jeff Allen, OT Donald Stephenson, WR Devon Wylie, CB DeQuan Menzie, RB Cyrus Gray, DT Jerome Long, WR Junior Hemingway
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Josh Bellamy, TE Tim Biere, G Justin Cheadle, RB Nate Eachus, DB Jean Fanor, DB Chandler Feener, FB Taylor Gentry, S Tysyn Hartman, LB Dexter Heyman, C Cam Holland, DE Ethan Johnson, WR Brandon Kinnie, S Terrance Parks, K Matt Szymanski, FS Neiko Thorpe
Outlook: Like the Houston Texans, the return to prominence for the Kansas City Chiefs will be a return to healthiness around their locker room.
Early-season injuries to Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry shook up confidence last year, and their return should spell trouble for their fellow AFC West rivals.
Grade: B
Miami Dolphins
17 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DB Richard Marshall, WR Legedu Naanee, QB David Garrard
Key Departures: OT Marc Colombo, WR Brandon Marshall, QB Chad Henne
Rookie Additions: QB Ryan Tannehill, OT Jonathan Martin, DE Olivier Vernon, TE Michael Egnew, RB Lamar Miller, OLB Josh Kaddu, WR B.J. Cunningham, DT Kheeston Randall, WR Rishard Matthews
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE Jacquies Smith, RB Jonas Gray, DE Derrick Shelby, WR Derek Moye, S Kelcie McCray, WR Jeff Fuller, OL Derrick Dennis, S Albert Evans, LB Shelly Lyons, DE Jarrell Root, DE/OLB Derrick Shelby, OL Josh Samuda, OL Terence Brown, OT Dustin Waldron, S Myron Johnson, CB Kevin Scott, WR Kelvin Bolden
Outlook: The Miami Dolphins may have the least intimidating roster in all of the league right now, and they appear to be beginning yet another rebuilding year.
Likely rookie starter Ryan Tannehill will have his work cut out for him, as the team failed to add much in the way of offensive weaponry to adjust for the loss of Pro Bowler Brandon Marshall.
Grade: D+
Minnesota Vikings
18 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Jerome Simpson, TE John Carlson
Key Departures: OLB Kenny Onatolu, OG Anthony Herrera, S Tyrell Johnson
Rookie Additions: OT Matt Kalil, FS Harrison Smith, CB Josh Robinson, WR Jarius Wright, TE Rhett Ellison, WR Greg Childs, S Robert Blanton, K Blair Walsh, ILB Audie Cole, DE Trevor Guyton
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DT Chase Baker, RB Derrick Coleman, DE Kevin Cyrille, CB Bobby Felder, WR Kamar Jorden, DE Eric Latimore, LB Tyler Nielsen, DE Ernest Owusu, G Austin Pasztor, DT Tydreke Powell, DT Terrell Resonno, C Quentin Saulsberry, OT Darrion Weems, CB C.C. Whitlock
Outlook: The Minnesota Vikings will struggle to move the ball offensively early this coming season, and quarterback Christian Ponder will have his work cut out for him as he tries to find someone to catch a pass. More struggles appear to be ahead for the Vikings.
Grade: C-
New England Patriots
19 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Brandon Lloyd, RB Joseph Addai, WR Donte' Stallworth, CB Will Allen
Key Departures: LT Matt Light, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, CB Antwaun Molden
Rookie Additions: DE Chandler Jones, ILB Dont'a Hightower, FS Tavon Wilson, DE Jake Bequette, DB Nate Ebner, CB Alfonzo Dennard, WR Jeremy Ebert
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DT Marcus Forston, TE Brad Herman, OL Jeremiah Warren, OL Markus Zusevics
Outlook: The explosive New England Patriots have added even more weapons, and Tom Brady must be licking his chops thinking about the addition of wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Donte' Stallworth to an already potent passing attack. Opposing defensive coordinators are already shaking in their boots.
Grade: A-
New Orleans Saints
20 of 32Key Additions/Returners: ILB David Hawthorne, MLB Curtis Lofton, OG Ben Grubbs
Key Departures: DT Shaun Rogers, CB Tracy Porter, OG Carl Nicks, WR Robert Meachem
Rookie Additions: DE Akiem Hicks, WR Nick Toon, SS Corey White, OG Andrew Tiller, OT Marcel Jones
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: LB Kadarron Anderson, WR Malcolm Beyah, DE Braylon Broughton, TE Jake Byrne, RB Travaris Cadet, DB A.J. Davis, C Brian Folkerts, WR Chris Givens, S Jose Grumbs, WR Kevin Hardy, T Dan Hoch, LB Stephen Johnson, S Jerico Nelson, RS Laron Scott, T Aderious Simmons, LB Aaron Tevis, S Johnny Thomas, DE/DT Tyrunn Walker
Outlook: The New Orleans Saints have performed admirably this offseason despite the loss of a draft pick and several suspensions. However, the team still has not re-signed quarterback Drew Brees.
While it seems unthinkable for Brees to go elsewhere given his popularity in the Big Easy, the longer the dispute goes on, the more likely that scary thought creeps into the minds of Saints fans.
Grade: B+ with Drew Brees, F- if Brees goes elsewhere
New York Giants
21 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DT Shaun Rogers, LB Keith Rivers, TE Martellus Bennett
Key Departures: WR Mario Manningham, RB Brandon Jacobs, CB Aaron Ross
Rookie Additions: RB David Wilson, WR Rueben Randle, CB Jayron Hosley, TE Adrien Robinson, OT Brandon Mosley, OT Matt McCants, DT Markus Kuhn
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: DE Matt Broha, WR David Douglas, S Janzen Jackson, FB Joe Martinek, LB Jake Muasau, S Jojo Nicolas, DL Adewale Ojomo, WR Julian Talley, QB James Suozzo
Outlook: The rich get richer as the New York Giants find more pieces to build on their championship roster. Shaun Rogers and Keith Rivers should fit nicely into the defense, while new running back David Wilson should pair up well with Ahmad Bradshaw to improve on their abysmal rushing statistics from 2011.
Grade: A-
New York Jets
22 of 32Key Additions/Returners: QB Tim Tebow, S LaRon Landry, PK Josh Brown, QB Mark Sanchez
Key Departures: S Brodney Pool, CB Marquice Cole, LB Jamaal Westerman
Rookie Additions: DE Quinton Coples, WR Stephen Hill, OLB Demario Davis, S Josh Bush, RB Terrance Ganaway, OG Robert Griffin, SS Antonio Allen, WR Jordan White
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: OL John Cullen, ILB Marcus Dowtin, CB Donnie Fletcher, DL Damon Harrison, QB G.J. Kinne, TE Brian Linthicum, DB D’Anton Lynn, CB Ryan Steed, LB Donovan Robinson, LB Brett Roy
Outlook: Locker-room friction was a major issue for the New York Jets in 2011, and their new pickups seem to do little to help that. Time will tell if head coach Rex Ryan and starting quarterback Mark Sanchez will be ready to handle the immense pressure of Tebow being placed on the field.
Given this stress, the only rings the Jets should be seeing in the near future are from the circus.
Grade: C
Oakland Raiders
23 of 32Key Additions/Returners: G Mike Brisiel, CB Ron Bartell, RB Mike Goodson
Key Departures: RB Michael Bush, QB Jason Campbell, OLB Kamerion Wimbley
Rookie Additions: OT Tony Bergstrom, OLB Miles Burris, DE Jack Crawford, WR Juron Criner, DT Christo Bilukidi, OLB Nathan Stupar
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: CB Conroy Black, DE Kaelin Burnett, WR Derek Carrier, WR Brandon Carswell, DL Dominique Hamilton, S Aaron Henry, P Marquette King, OL Dan Knapp, LB Mario Kurn, WR Thomas Mayo, OL Lucas Nix, S Chaz Powell, WR Rod Streater
Outlook: Things may not be so easy for the Oakland Raiders, who were hamstrung this offseason both by a lack of cap space and draft picks. While the Raiders' AFC West opposition is getting better, it appears that the team is sliding in the wrong direction.
Grade: C+
Philadelphia Eagles
24 of 32Key Additions/Returners: ILB DeMeco Ryans, OT Demetress Bell
Key Departures: CB Asante Samuel, QB Vince Young, WR Steve Smith
Rookie Additions: DT Fletcher Cox, LB Mychal Kendricks, DE Vinny Curry, QB Nick Foles, CB Brandon Boykin, OT Dennis Kelly, WR Marvin McNutt, OG Brandon Washington, RB Bryce Brown
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Elvis Akpla, LS Matt Camilli, TE Chase Ford, CB Cliff Harris, TE Emil Igwenagu, WR McKay Jacobson, WR Damaris Johnson, WR Aaron Pflugrad, RB Chris Polk, FB Jeremy Stewart, S Phillip Thomas, P Ryan Tydlacka, WR Darnell Williams
Outlook: The Philadelphia Eagles have revenge on their minds as they look to remind folks why they were considered a favorite early in the 2011 season.
With improvements in the team's linebacker corps (particularly the addition of DeMeco Ryans), all signs point to this team's defense being much improved in 2012.
However, a lack of quality on the offensive line could spell problems for quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy.
Grade: B
Pittsburgh Steelers
25 of 32Key Additions/Returners: TE Leonard Pope
Key Departures: CB William Gay, WR Hines Ward, ILB James Farrior
Rookie Additions: G David DeCastro, T Mike Adams, LB Sean Spence, DT Alameda Ta'amu, RB Chris Rainey, WR Toney Clemons, TE David Paulson, CB Terrence Frederick, OT Kelvin Beachum
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: P Drew Butler, CB Terry Carter, WR Connor Dixon, DB Robert Golden, DE Ikponmwosa Igbinosun, OL Ryan Lee, LB Brandon Lindsey, WR Marquis Maze, K Grant Ressel, LB Adrian Robinson, OL Desmond Stapleton, DE Jake Stoller
Outlook: The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking the health of Ben Roethlisberger seriously, adding two major offensive line talents to protect their man under center. A healthy Roethlisberger can only mean good things for a team desperate to avenge its humiliating playoff exit in 2011.
Grade: B+
San Diego Chargers
26 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Robert Meachem, OLB Jarret Johnson, WR Eddie Royal
Key Departures: WR Vincent Jackson, QB Billy Volek, RB Mike Tolbert
Rookie Additions: DE Melvin Ingram, DT Kendall Reyes, SS Brandon Taylor, TE Ladarius Green, G Johnnie Troutman, C David Molk, RB Edwin Baker
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Hubert Anyiam, WR Jason Barnes, OT Cordell Bell, DL Eddie Brown, OL Charles Burton, S Sean Cattouse, WR Paul Cox, WR Taylor Embree, CB Gregory Gatson, LS Nick Guess, DT Logan Harrell, OT Michael Harris, RB Mike Hayes, QB Jarrett Lee, LB Josh Linam, FB Mohamed Marah, P Kyle Martens, WR Phil Payne, QB DeAndre Presley, DT Christian Tupou, WR Michael Willie
Outlook: The San Diego Chargers have improved on the defensive side of the ball, adding pass-rushers to a unit that had fared poorly in that part of the game. They also plan on replacing the mercurial Vincent Jackson with Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal.
The big change for 2012 is the roaring fire underneath general manager A.J. Smith and coach Norv Turner to win now. The phrase "win or go home" will take on a very literal meaning during the year.
Grade: B
San Francisco 49ers
27 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Randy Moss, RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Mario Manningham
Key Departures: OG Adam Snyder, S Madieu Williams, WR Josh Morgan
Rookie Additions: WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, G Joe Looney, OLB Darius Fleming, S Trent Robinson, C Jason Slowey, DE Cam Johnson
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: FB Cameron Bell, LB Kourtnei Brown, DT Patrick Butrym, TE Garrett Celek, OL David Gonzalez, RB Jewel Hampton, LB Joe Holland, DT Matthew Masifilo, CB Anthony Mosley, T Kevin Murphy, G Al Netter, WR Chris Owusu, WR Nathan Palmer, CB Deante Purvis, K Giorgio Tavecchio, S Michael Thomas, WR Brian Tyms
Outlook: More weapons for a San Francisco 49ers roster that was only a few flubbed special teams plays away from a Super Bowl appearance.
While there will be some question about whether there are enough balls for everybody to contribute, head coach Jim Harbaugh should have what it takes to keep things together.
The Niners are going to need all the contributors they can get, as they face a brutal schedule this season.
Grade: A-
Seattle Seahawks
28 of 32Key Additions/Returners: QB Matt Flynn, OG Deuce Lutui, RB Marshawn Lynch, DE Red Bryant
Key Departures: ILB David Hawthorne, QB Charlie Whitehurst
Rookie Additions: OLB Bruce Irvin, ILB Bobby Wagner, QB Russell Wilson, RB Robert Turbin, DT Jaye Howard, ILB Korey Toomer, CB Jeremy Lane, DB Winston Guy, DE J.R. Sweezy, DE Greg Scruggs
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Phil Bates, CB London Durham, G Rishaw Johnson, WR Jermaine Kearse, TE Sean McGrath, T Jon Opperud, DB DeShawn Shead, DE Monte Taylor, WR Lavasier Tuinei, K Carson Wiggs
Outlook: The Seattle Seahawks are bound to improve in 2012 as Matt Flynn takes over the quarterback position from the underachieving Tarvaris Jackson. Meanwhile, the team can only hope that first-round pick Bruce Irvin can become a quick contributor to a defense that needs pass-rushing help...badly.
Grade: B+
St. Louis Rams
29 of 32Key Additions/Returners: DE Kendall Langford, CB Cortland Finnegan, WR Danny Amendola
Key Departures: WR Brandon Lloyd, DT Gary Gibson, OG Jacob Bell
Rookie Additions: DT Michael Brockers, WR Brian Quick, CB Janoris Jenkins, RB Isaiah Pead, CB Trumaine Johnson, WR Chris Givens, T Rokevious Watkins, K Greg Zuerlein, OLB Aaron Brown, RB Daryl Richardson
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: CB Jeremy Caldwell, DL Matt Conrath, S Matt Daniels, OL Bob Hebert, P Johnny Hekker, LB Noah Keller, TE Deangelo Peterson, DE Scott Smith, S Quinton Porter, WR Nick Johnson, OT Michael Hay, TE Cory Harkey, QB Austin Davis, OT Joe Long, LB Sammy Ford, LB Alex Hoffman-Ellis, S Rodney McLeod, LS Travis Tripucka, FB Todd Anderson, LB Derrick Choice, RB Calvin Middleton
Outlook: The St. Louis Rams may see the biggest improvement in a secondary unit by any team this offseason, as the team added Cortland Finnegan and drafted Janoris Jenkins (one of the biggest talents in the draft, whose baggage dropped him way down the draft charts of many teams).
The team will also need to hope that some receiving weapons develop to help its franchise quarterback, Sam Bradford.
Grade: B+
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Vincent Jackson, DT Amobi Okoye, OG Carl Nicks, CB Eric Wright
Key Departures: OLB Geno Hayes, OT James Lee, QB Josh Johnson
Rookie Additions: SS Mark Barron, RB Doug Martin, OLB Lavonte David, ILB Najee Goode, CB Keith Tandy, RB Michael Smith, TE Drake Dunsmore
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Luther Ambrose, LB Ryan Baker, QB Zach Collaros, OL Gilbert "Chaz" Hine, FB Cody Johnson, CB Leonard Johnson, DT Donte'e Nicholls, WR Tyler Shoemaker, T Bradley Sowell, S Tramain Thomas, TE Tyler Urban, OL Mike VanDerMeulen, CB Quenton Washington, T Desmond Wynn
Outlook: The addition of players like Vincent Jackson shows the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to bring some pep to an offense that was stagnant at times last season. Despite their roster additions, the Bucs' success will depend on whether they can keep their focus through full games, something that was a major problem in 2011.
Grade: B-
Tennessee Titans
31 of 32Key Additions/Returners: OG Steve Hutchinson, DE/OLB Kamerion Wimbley, DT Leger Douzable
Key Departures: CB Cortland Finnegan, DE Jason Jones, WR Donnie Avery
Rookie Additions: WR Kendall Wright, OLB Zach Brown, DT Mike Martin, CB Coty Sensabaugh, DE/TE Taylor Thompson, S Markelle Martin, DE Scott Solomon
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Devin Aguilar, TE Brandon Barden, T George Bias, TE/LS Beau Brinkley, G Chandler Burden, WR Chase Deadder, DT DaJohn Harris, WR LaQuinton Evans, S Christian Scott, QB Nick Stephens, C William Vlachos, LB Alex Watkins, RB Darryl Whiting, CB Gary Wilburn, WR Derrick Woods, T Trevor Olsen, T Rocky Weaver
Outlook: The Tennessee Titans will have some issues in 2012 on both sides of the ball. On offense, will team management go with age (Jake Locker) or experience (Matt Hasselbeck) to start under center?
On defense, the team will have to figure out how to replace its secondary holes created by the departure of Cortland Finnegan.
Grade: C
Washington Redskins
32 of 32Key Additions/Returners: WR Pierre Garcon, WR Josh Morgan, S Madieu Williams, S Brandon Meriweather
Key Departures: WR Donte' Stallworth, S LaRon Landry, TE Mike Sellers
Rookie Additions: QB Robert Griffin III, OG Josh LeRibeus, QB Kirk Cousins, OLB Keenan Robinson, OG Adam Gettis, RB Alfred Morris, OT Tom Compton, CB Richard Crawford, CB Jordan Bernstine
Confirmed Undrafted Free Agents: WR Darius Hanks, WR Kelvin Bolden, RB Lennon Creer, C Grant Garner, ILB Donnell (D.J.) Holt, WR Lance Lewis, DT Vaughn Meatoga, CB Chase Minnifield, DE Brian McNally, RB Michael Shaw, LB Monte Lewis
Outlook: If the Washington Redskins offense can be moderately functional in 2012, this team might have a shot to contend. However, the lack of a line suggests that new quarterback Robert Griffin III may be showing off his running ability more than anybody would like.
Grade: C+
