"Jason Pierre-Paul of Tight Ends" Creating Buzz in 1st Practice for Giants
The Giants is a very level-headed organization that is not given over to hyperbole about its players, so when GM Jerry Reese called fourth-round pick TE Adrien Robinson, "the Jason Pierre-Paul of tight ends", it should have gotten your attention. Reese called out Robinson's size and arm length, saying that they thought he had "huge upside" even though his collegiate team, the Cincinnati Bearcats, didn't throw to him that often.
Robinson's pro day numbers back up Reese's excitement. At 6'4" 264, Robinson was able to run a 4.58 40 and post a 39.5" vertical, which makes him as fast and explosive as some of the better wide receivers drafted.
Today at the Giants' first rookie mini camp practice, Robinson did something that should only increase the team's enthusiasm about drafting him:
"
Adrien Robinson just caught a ball he had no business catching. A dart above his head from like 5 yards away. Got hands up quickly. #nyg

"
Art Stapleton, a Giants beat writer for the Bergen Record, also tweeted that head coach Tom Coughlin was impressed by Robinson's size and "NFL-ready game."
It took Pierre-Paul until his second year to make his presence known around the league. The Giants lost their top two TEs to ACL tears in the Super Bowl and signed the enigmatic Martellus Bennett to play the position in free agency. If Adrien Robinson can keep making plays like the one he made in his first practice, he may show everyone why he was called the Pierre-Paul of tight ends right away.
