2012 NBA Playoffs: 76ers Survive Bulls in Wild Game 6

Baily DeeterJun 7, 2018

Things were looking very bleak for the 76ers. Then, in the final minute, they worked some magic and won another close game.

Andre Iguodala hit two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to lift Philadelphia to a 79-78 win over Chicago. Philadelphia was struggling late and trailed by three in the final minute, but they came out on top.

Iguodala was huge, scoring 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting. He fought through an Achilles injury to play, and he made a huge impact.

Spencer Hawes, who was huge in the 76ers' Games 3 and 4 wins, made a key layup with 43 seconds left to cut Chicago's lead to one. With seven seconds left, Omer Asik was fouled, and he missed two free throws.

Iguodala took the ball, started a fast break and drew a foul on Omer Asik. Iggy coolly hit two free throws, then got a piece of C.J. Watson's final three-point heave.

And somehow, the 76ers pulled off the upset.

The 76ers will face Boston or Atlanta in the second round. Either way, the 76ers have a good chance at advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. They are athletic, clutch, good at rebounding and able to accomplish a lot.

In Game 6, they proved that.

Philadelphia was able to make the shots it needed to make down the stretch in Games 3 and 4, but there were none bigger than Andre Iguodala's free throws. However, Hawes and Thaddeus Young came up big too.

Down 78-75, Young dribbled into the key and dropped a floater over the defender and into the hoop, cutting Chicago's lead to one. Then, the 76ers pulled off the amazing win.

Evan Turner and Jrue Holiday, Philly's two young stars, failed to play up to their offensive potential, combining for 24 points. However, they played great defense, and Chicago shot 37.5 percent.

Chicago likely would've won if Carlos Boozer scored more than 3 points and shot better than 1-for-11. However, he was contained down low, and even though Rip Hamilton and Luol Deng played well, it wasn't enough.

And again, the 76ers prevailed in a close game.

Even though the 76ers are young, everyone wants the spotlight, and they can perform at any time. Philadelphia is athletic, so if it faces Boston in the second round, it will be able to get fast-break points and get the shots it wants by keeping Boston alert at all times.

Thanks to that ability, the 76ers were able to stay in the game, force Chicago into taking bad shots and come out on top. Philadelphia is built around rebounding and defense, but when it needs to score, it scores.

And that's why Chicago's going home and Philly's moving on.
