2012 Preakness Contenders: I'll Have Another and Other Horses to Watch

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

I'll Have Another will attempt to win the second of three triple crown races at The Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, but he isn't the only horse worth watching.

Several of the horses who performed well at the Kentucky Derby will run in The Preakness, which will make for an exciting race.

Let's look at three horses to watch in the second leg of the triple crown.

I'll Have Another

The Kentucky Derby winner is under immense pressure to win The Preakness and become the first horse since Big Brown in 2008 to enter the Belmont Stakes with a chance to be the first triple crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

I'll Have Another is a strong horse but The Preakness doesn't suit the horse's talents as well as the Kentucky Derby or Belmont Stakes do.

Witnessing I'll Have Another's pursuit of the triple crown makes The Preakness worth watching.

Went the Day Well

Went the Day Well finished fourth at the Kentucky Derby thanks to a strong push towards the end of the race after a sluggish start.

This horse has good speed and will be able to gain on the pack with its strong stamina, just like it did at Churchill Downs.

Expect Went the Day Well to be a top contender at The Preakness and finish in the top four again.

Creative Cause

Creative Cause wasn't expected by many to win the Kentucky Derby, but the horse was able to finish fifth against a competitive field.

Before the race at Churchill Downs, Creative Cause had three races in 2012, finishing in the top three each time with one victory.

Expect this horse to be a top contender at The Preakness.
