Matt Kuchar Takes 2012 Players Championship: Final TPC Leaderboard

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Update: Sunday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Matt Kuchar has won the 2012 Players Championship. He was consistent and steady throughout this tournament at the beautiful TPC at Sawgrass golf course, and that didn't change on Sunday.

Kuchar fired a 70 to finish the tournament at 13-under and earn a two-stroke victory. This is easily the biggest win of his career, and is the culmination of fantastic play that has left him just outside of several big championships.

It was Kuchar's fourth career win and first win in two years, his last coming at the 2010 Barclays.

Rickie Fowler made a fantastic late charge. He birdied 16 and 17 and had a birdie putt lip out on No. 18 before finishing tied for second at 11-under with Zach Johnson, Martin Laird and Ben Curtis.

Third-round leader, Kevin Na, struggled all day. He fired a final round of 76, to wind up tied for seventh.

Other notables at the 2012 Players: Tiger Woods finished tied for 40th at one-under; Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson came in at T25 at three-under; and Englishman Luke Donald finished nine-under and sixth after starting the day at T27; Geoff Ogilvy T12 at six-under; and Adam Scott T15 at five-under.

Round 3 Highlights

Update: Saturday, May 12 at 6:50 p.m. ET

What an entertaining day of golf at Sawgrass. Rickie Fowler wasted no time cranking up the excitement. He was three-under for the day after five holes. While he couldn't keep up that torrid pace, he was still fantastic.

He finished six-under for the round and is now nine-under for the tournament. That leaves him in third place, three strokes behind leader Kevin Na.

Na had one of the more interesting rounds you will ever see. He finished the day four-under to move to 12-under for the tournament. He had four birdies and no bogeys—which isn't all that interesting—until you take into account how he looked doing it.

Na never looked comfortable addressing the ball. He did countless club waggles, stepped away from the ball, and even swung through, but well outside the ball. He could had a hard time getting comfortable, but it worked.
