Euro Cup 2012: Underdogs That Will Make a Title Run

Richard LangfordJun 1, 2018

The Euro Cup has some serious favorites in Spain and Germany, but don't count out the scrappy underdogs.

For starters, history is not on defending champion Spain's side. In the 13 Euro Cups, not once has there been a repeat winner. And in those 13 tournaments nine different countries have won the championship.

Obviously, this is a tournament that likes upstarts. Here are three that will fly in under-the-radar but have a chance to win it all.

Croatia

As long as Slaven Bilic is managing Croatia, they are a solid underdog pick. That is because Bilic has a knack for getting all of his players on the same page. He is a master technician, and his players buy into his plan.

This team is not without talent, either. Their offense is propelled by the likes of Luka Modric, Darijo Srna and Ivan Rakitic, and they have experience all over the pitch.

Denmark

Denmark was done no favors when they were stuck in Group B with Germany, Netherlands and Portugal.

But this is another well-coached and disciplined squad. Morten Olsen knows how to get his squad on the same page.

This isn't an overly-talented side, but they do have some talent in players like Daniel Agger, Simon Kjaer, Christian Eriksen and striker Nicklas Bendtner.

England

England has put together some nice play as of late. They have wins over Spain and Sweden and had an easy time qualifying.

However, this is not really new territory for England. They have a nasty history of getting their fans' hopes up only to fail miserably in tournament play.

At some point that streak has to stop, right? It might as well be now.

England has a fairly easy group, which will help with the fact that Wayne Rooney is likely staring at a three-game suspension.

If England can catch a little momentum, they could be dangerous.
