Game 31 Recap: Oakland A's Drop Matinee to Toronto Blue Jays 5-2
After an emotional comeback win, the A's could not muster much against Toronto starter Brandon Morrow and lost 5-2 in the second of a two-game series.
Tyson Ross looked better but still took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. A's pitchers allowed three total home runs, and the hitters were stymied by Morrow, striking out 10 times in just six innings.
Both A's runs were scored on RBI singles. First, Jonny Gomes singled in Cliff Pennington to make the score 2-1 in the fifth. Then Josh Reddick singled in Anthony Recker in the seventh to make the score 4-2.

But the A's would not get any closer. In total, they struck out 14 times against the Blue Jays.
Good
Jemile Weeks. He appears to be getting hot with the weather. He went 2-for-5 with his seventh stolen base and is almost back to .200 on the year.
Bad
A's relief. Both Pedro Figueroa and Jerry Blevins gave up long balls that stunted any efforts at an A's comeback. Not an indication of the season, but not something to be ignored, either.
Ugly
Daric Barton. 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He looked over-matched against Morrow and simply is not the long-term answer at first base.
Now 16-15, the A's will begin a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers Thursday at the Coliseum. In Game 1, Bartolo Colon will match up with Detroit's Max Scherzer. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
