Tiger Woods Has Become the Biggest Joke in Sports

Stop me if you heard this one. A couple of announcers are inducted into the Hall of Fame and use their time at a press conference to roast Tiger Woods. Wait, that actually just happened. 

Forget the Tiger Woods that used to amaze the crowds with long drives and amazing putts, because the man is a joke, better for "hahas" than birdies. 

At least, that's what seems to be the case. 

The newest members of the Golf Hall of Fame are Peter Alliss and Dan Jenkins, who said a few words before the induction ceremony Monday at the St. Johns County Convention Center. 

Both analysts have given us all volumes of witty material, and did one better on Monday as they welcomed the moment to dissect Tiger Woods, the former most respected athlete in the world. 

Jenkins is a long-time Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest writer. Alliss is a popular English BBC commentator who also played in eight Ryder Cups. 

He also happens to be the genius behind the greatest commentary on a man stretching, ever.

On Monday, they opened up and had some interesting things to offer on Tiger, a golfer who recently failed to make the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship.

I do not understand the thinking of Tiger Woods. I think his golfing brain, for some reason or other, is completely addled.

Perhaps the good part of his brain for a period drained from here, down to here. (Alliss motioning from his head to his groin) And that caused him great distress, probably a modicum of enjoyment at the time. But he’s gone

Jenkins, on the other hand, was far more frugal with his words. He was asked if Woods would win another five majors and pass Jack Nicklaus. He answered with,

No. Next question.

Can you blame them?

It's not like Woods is all that easy to root for anymore, and this is coming from a man that has gladly supported the golfer in the last couple of years. 

I love comeback stories and tales of redemption. It's the reason that I accepted Darth Vader being some old, white dude in Return of the Jedi. 

I can look past a lot. 

I can't look past the respectable that turned deplorable that is now just a crappy golfer, and one that isn't all that likable. 

He misses the cut at the Wells Fargo, and before that he was last seen flailing at Augusta. The Masters was the scene of a mental meltdown that devolved into him kicking his club down the course. 

Funny. 

I laughed much like you did because it was funny. It's hilarious how remarkably different this guy is from the one we watched golf just a decade ago. 

The old Tiger was invincible and respected, but the latest is just lame.
