Ryan Leaf Reaches Plea Agreement on Drug and Burglary Charges

Wes ODonnellMay 8, 2012

Ryan Leaf has struggled to catch a break in every aspect of his life since being the No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft.

However, the majority of that blame falls directly on his shoulders.

The former Chargers and Cowboys quarterback reached a plea agreement today on drug and burglary charges in Montana.

According to an AP report on NJ.com:

"

The Great Falls Tribune reports Leaf's attorney, Kenneth Olson, requested a combined arraignment and change-of-plea hearing on charges that Leaf broke into two houses in his hometown and stole prescription painkillers. District Judge Kenneth Neill set the hearing for 1 p.m. Tuesday.

"

Leaf has been jailed since his arrest in early April.

Legal troubles are nothing new for the former Washington State superstar who has been arrested for drugs, burglary and theft in the past.

Prison time in the state of Texas is now a real possibility for the troubled former athlete. He reached a plea agreement there in 2010 after facing similar charges, but the state has since moved to revoke his probation.

It appeared Leaf was starting to put things back together when he moved north and decided to spend more time with his family in Montana. He even finished the first of three books he was signed on to write.

Now there is a good chance he winds up in prison for some time.
