Manchester United Transfers: 5 Players Who Must Be Sold This Summer

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

Manchester United is in fact, just like every other club in the world.

They might have all the money and the history and the prestige, but at the end of the day, they suffer from the same pressure and expectations as everyone else.

2012 has shown that to be true.

With no silverware to show for their solid year (no, Community Shield isn't a real trophy), the Red Devils' playing group is no doubt going to see some drastic changes throughout the summer. Those that have been under-performing this year may well find themselves on the way out.

So who should Sir Alex Ferguson look to get rid of in the summer transfer window?

Here's five players that Manchester United must sell this summer.

Dimitar Berbatov

1 of 5

2011-12 stats: 12 appearances, seven goals

It's little surprise to see Berbatov on this list, as it's assumed that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the year. With the depth of talent up front that Manchester United has, Berbatov has struggled for adequate minutes this year and it appears that his days playing for the Red Devils are over.

Michael Owen

2 of 5

2011-12 stats: One appearance

At 32, Michael Owen is at exactly the same point as Berbatov but perhaps without the success for Manchester United behind him. Picked up late in his career by the Red Devils, Owen will be hard pressed to find a new contract at United and will most likely be sold by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Anderson

3 of 5

2011-12 stats: 10 appearances, two goals

Despite scoring more goals this year than any other year at Manchester United, Anderson is another player that needs to be sold. United's midfield is already set and even with the pending retirements of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, Anderson still won't find his way into the starting lineup.

His age and skills make him a decent player on the market and Sir Alex Ferguson will no doubt attract interest for the 24-year old Brazilian midfielder.

Tomas Kuszczak

4 of 5

2011-12 stats: Currently on loan to Watford

Aged 30, Kuszczak should be sold to Watford, or whoever wants him, because frankly, he will never feature again in the goalkeeper pecking order at Manchester United.

David De Gea has the starting job for several years to come and with Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos waiting in the wings, United should make it official and get rid of Kuszczak.

Federico Macheda

5 of 5

2011-12 stats: No appearances this year

With plenty of young strikers and talented attackers in the roster, Federico Macheda should also find himself on the way out of Old Trafford.

Young and talented, Macheda has never truly lived up to the potential that he promised to show, though a horror run of injuries has played its part in this.

Sir Alex Ferguson may choose to loan out the striker, but at aged 20, will no doubt be able to find a home for Macheda and some decent money as well.
