Floyd Mayweather Fight: Pretty Boy Floyd Shows Class in Win over Miguel Cotto

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather displayed a great level of class in his win over Miguel Cotto that pushed his record to an astonishing 43-0.

Now, I know what you're thinking...

This is the same Mayweather that we've heard run his mouth on constant opponents, the MMA and even his own father.

This is the same Mayweather that told announcer Larry Merchant that HBO needs to fire him because he doesn't "know [expletive] about boxing," and then almost caused the much older announcer to go fisticuffs on live T.V.

This is the very same Mayweather that made some incredibly racist comments in a rant against Manny Pacquiao via a Ustream video. I can't be talking about this Mayweather, right?

Classy? Really?

Believe it or not, Mayweather came off as extremely classy and even humble (gasp) after his victory over the very good Cotto on Saturday night.

Here's what he had to say about Cotto after the fight, via Dan Rafael of ESPN.com:

"

"You're a helluva champion," Mayweather said to Cotto in the ring after the fight. "You're the toughest guy I ever fought."

"

I dare say that sounds like respect coming from Mayweather, and it's respect that I firmly believe Cotto deserved. This was a hard-fought, 12-round fight that went to a decision, and it was arguably the toughest fight of Mayweather's career.

Still, though, those are very strong words coming from the man that we're used to getting strong words of the negative variety from.

Perhaps Mayweather is experiencing a change of heart. Maybe it has to do with the jail time he's going to have to serve in a few weeks, or maybe he really did respect the way Cotto came after him.

Either way, Floyd's comments towards Cotto at the end of their bout was a sign of class.

Believe it or not.
