Eli Manning: Top 3 Moments from the QB's Turn on Saturday Night Live

Richard LangfordMay 6, 2012

Eli Manning had some truly hilarious moments while hosting NBC's iconic Saturday Night Live. Sure there were also some misses, but it was a solid effort as far as athletes hosting this show goes.

He got off to a slow start as he rushed his monologue. There were some solid lines, but he just wasn't giving them enough pause to let them truly pop. That was certainly forgivable as the monologue has made even experienced actors nervous.

Once the skits fired up, he came off more naturally, and it was fun to see the typically reserved Eli push the envelope a bit. Here is a rundown of his three greatest successes.

Manning was on the witness stand as the defendant in a murder trail. His lawyer, Jason Sudeikis, contended that Eli could not have committed the murder because he was busy at home texting—very busy.

The skit was undoubtedly intended to be a little jab at the little Brett Favre texting controversy.

As Sudeikis read off the record of Manning's text, they got increasingly more embarrassing. Manning's character, Chad, had sent a number of texts to a large number of different female acquaintances, and let's just say they weren't the most eloquent or chivalrous messages.

At one point, it was revealed that Manning even texted a co-worker that he knew was in a coma and asked if she wanted to meet when she woke up.

Eli played the awkwardness of having his late night texts revealed to the world perfectly, and it was one laugh after another.

In this skit, Manning was dressed in the familiar black suit lined with white ping pong looking balls to help the video game makers capture his likeness.

They wanted Manning to give them a signature celebration move, and he was at a loss to come up with anything appropriate. He started by fake dribbling a basketball.

He took some suggestions from the directors and did one where he mimicked pulling the pin on a grenade—only Manning pulled the pin and and underhand tossed the make believe grenade while shrieking.

He took a break and emerged to tell the directors he had his "iconic" move, and promptly Tebowed. Told that one was already taken, he decided he wanted his move to be making a sandwich.

Little Brothers Program

When Eli's older brother Peyton was on the show, he did a now famous United Way skit, that resulted in him chucking a football in the face of a youngster.

Eli did a little spin-off of that skit here. Manning was helping little brothers overcome the bullying of their older siblings. He did this by doing what else? Bullying them.

The skit showed a montage of Eli roughing up the older brothers and that led to Eli revealing the true inspiration for his role in this program as he called one of the brothers Peyton as he locked him in a trunk.

The skit ended with Manning triumphantly surrounded by the little brothers and laughing maniacally, and that was his best bit of acting all show. It was also impossible not to laugh.
