Mayweather vs. Cotto Results: Win over Cotto Was One of Money May's Best Fights

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather's victory over Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night was one of the most impressive fights of Money May's historic career. Not only did he come out on top, but he also showed exceptional passion and stamina to tough through an early onslaught by Cotto, who did absolutely everything he could to dethrone Mayweather and ruin his perfect record.

At age 35, Mayweather had to find some extra strength and perseverance, which would have been much easier for him to find early in his career, but not so much at this point of his boxing life.

Mayweather was full of praise for Cotto after the bout, one that had boxing fans leaving the arena content with what they paid for their tickets.

"

You're a hell of a champion. You're the toughest guy I ever fought. You want to give the fans what they pay for and that's excitement. It comes with the territory when you fight a future Hall of Famer like Miguel Cotto.

I had to fight hard and suck it up. I dug down and fought him back.

"

Throughout the fight, especially in the later rounds, Mayweather showed the fight of a champion and the determination not to be denied—something that all great boxers summon when they are up against a strong opponent.

At his age, it was very impressive to see Mayweather bounce back after being battered by Cotto's powerful punches and superior strength.

There was no way that Money May was going lose this fight, and as the rounds started to pile up, it was clear Mayweather wasn't going to be denied.

The only thing left for Mayweather seems to be a showdown of epic proportions with Manny Pacquiao, which Money May wants to happen:

"

"I tried to make the Pacquiao fight and that didn't work, so I fought Miguel Cotto instead and gave the fans a great fight," Mayweather said. "I want to fight Pacquiao but he has to take the test, and I'll fight him."

"

Hopefully these two men can figure out a way to put together this fight, because it would be an epic bout that would put boxing back to the forefront of the sports world.
