WWE: Why Dolph Ziggler Is the Real Deal

Ryan DilbertJun 1, 2018

Dolph Ziggler is WWE's next megastar.

Ziggler is already one of the finest in-ring performers in the industry and needs only a push and a signature feud for him to take his rightful place on top of the WWE mountain.

His amateur background and his ability to sell and produce high quality matches make him a can't-miss prospect.

King of Selling

In a match on WWE Superstars, Ziggler faced off against Mason Ryan.  Pairing just about any other wrestler against the lumbering Ryan would have probably resulted in a tepid, uninteresting confrontation.

Ziggler extracted Ryan's best, making him look far better than he is.

This is Ziggler's greatest skill.

A simple clothesline from a run-of-the-mill grappler is turned into a breathtaking move by Ziggler.

Several times throughout his matches, fans have to wonder if his shoulder is separated or if his head has been loosened from his neck.

He sells better than anyone in the business, not overdoing the theatrics, but amplifying the drama of a fight.

Technical and Flash

Ziggler manages to seamlessly integrate his amateur wrestling skills into the world of sports entertainment.

Great technical wrestlers can sometimes lack in the pizzazz department.

As amazingly skilled as Bret Hart was, some fans complained of his matches being boring.

This is not an issue with Ziggler.  Doing sit-ups during a match, playing to the crowd, emotion emanating from him, Ziggler cranks up the excitement of a match.

He has thus far worked his show-off gimmick to perfection, drawing comparisons to Curt Hennig and Shawn Michaels.

Being a collegiate champion gives him a concrete foundation.

The smoothness of his counters, the grace of his suplexes are born from his days as a Kent State Golden Flash.

Growing, Glowing Resume

Natural ability and charisma can only take one so far.

In the end, wrestlers are largely judged by the greatness of their matches.

Rarely does Ziggler have a snoozer of a match.

His career highlights at this point include several excellent battles with Kofi Kingston.

His work against Daniel Bryan, especially their bout at Bragging Rights 2010, John Morrison and against Edge at Royal Rumble 2011 are some of WWE's highpoints of the last few years.

WWE wrestlers who face off against him will be made to look their best.

Like Shawn Michaels, Ziggler shines when on the biggest stages.

With all eyes on him vs. Zack Ryder at TLC 2011, he enhanced that moment to its highest possible level.

Future

At WrestleMania 28, Ziggler was lost in the murky GM vs. GM twelve-man tag match.

He deserves better.

His talents beg to have him pursue major championships and to be one of the centerpieces of Vince McMahon's company.

WWE seems to understand the level of excellence he possesses and is hopefully just waiting for the right moment to anoint him the future.

Dolph Ziggler is the real deal and his time will come.
