Kentucky Derby Results: Horses That Will Enter the Preakness with Momentum
It's clear that I'll Have Another, the Kentucky Derby winner, will enter the Preakness Stakes with quite a bit of momentum. But what "losers" will still enter Pimlico with momentum on their side?
It certainly won't be on Union Rags' or Take Charge Indy's side as they were both incredibly disappointing.
It will, however be on the side of Bodemeister and Dullahan, who made bettors very happy today (you can find the complete payout list here).
| 19 | I'll Have Another | $32.60 | $13.80 | $9.00 |
| 6 | Bodemeister | $6.20 | $5.60 | |
| 5 | Dullahan | $7.20 |
Let's take a look at what horses, outside of the obvious winner, will enter the Preakness with much-needed momentum.
Bodemeister (Place)
Wow, has any horse ever run a more impressive losing race?
Before the Kentucky Derby started, everyone predicted Trinniberg, who is basically the Usain Bolt of horses, would jump out to a four- or five-length lead before giving up the lead.
Well, Trinniberg got out to that insane early pace, but Bodemeister amazingly stayed neck-and-neck with him.
And with the exception of the final couple hundred yards, Bodemeister didn't even let up. He put up the fifth-fastest time at the quarter- and half-mile marks and still almost held on for the win.
At the shorter Pemlico track for the Preakness, Bodemeister should absolutely blow everyone away.
Dullahan (Show)
Dullahan came in with just the fifth-best odds overall, but managed to come in third. Kent Desormeaux continues to establish himself as one of the best jockeys in the world today.
With the insane pace that was set in this race, Dullahan's ability to stay right off the front pack and then still make a threatening run on the final straightaway was very impressive.
Much like Bodemeister, he should be a major player at the shorter Preakness Stakes.
