Kentucky Derby Payouts: Bettors Cash in on I'll Have Another's Unforeseen Win
Bodemeister looked like he would make good on the early hype, but Doug O'Neill's horse made some folks very happy pulling out the victory at the 138th Kentucky Derby, at 15-to-1 odds.
This first Saturday in May, at Churchill Downs in Kentucky belonged to I'll Have Another. Many of the bettors that benefited from his unlikely win will enjoy their mint juleps tonight.
He showed amazing resolve in one of the most exciting finishes in recent memory at Churchill Downs. He absolutely exploded down the final stretch to catch the front-running Bodemeister, capturing the win by one-and-a-half lengths.
I'll Have Another probably ruined any chances of a Triple Crown winner in 2012, as it is unlikely he can duplicate this performance in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
But that is a topic for another day. Today, he was the premier horse in the world's most famous horse race, and that victory paid off big for those that believed in him.
He was not the sexy pick—even as a long shot—but in the end, he stood alone.
The $32.60 I'll Have Another paid at 15-to-1 odds is substantial, and should make for a some great Kentucky Derby after-parties—at least for the winners.
