Preakness 2012: Date, Post Time, TV Schedule and Early Predictions

Josh MartinMay 31, 2018

With the 138th Kentucky Derby in hand, I'll Have Another will move on to the 137th Preakness Stakes on Satruday, May 19 to keep alive his hopes of becoming the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.

Big Brown was the last thoroughbred to follow up a Derby Day win at Churchill Downs with a first-place finish at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Shackleford finished first at the Preakness in 2011, ending Animal Kingdom's dreams of historic horse-racing glory.

Will I'll Have Another keep his dreams of joining horse racing royalty alive, or will another colt come forward to capture the Preakness and spoil the Triple Crown hunt as a result?

Early Predictions

I'll Have Another will be on everyone's radar heading into the Preakness, as any Derby winner should.

But don't forget about Bodemeister, who came in as one of the odds-on favorites to win at Churchill Downs and held a five-length lead heading into the final stretch before his legs grew heavy. The Bob Baffert entry still managed to place, despite a noted lack of experience, and clearly has the talent to win the Preakness.

The oddsmakers figure to be down on Union Rags, who came in as a 9/2 favorite, after coming in sixth, though he deserves tremendous credit for a strong finish after getting pinched out of the running at the outset. A better start at Pimlico could pay off handsomely for a steady galloper like Union Rags.

Dullahan, which entered with 12/1 odds, did well to show at just one-and-three-quarters lengths behind I'll Have Another. Expect him to challenge over the final furlong or two in Charm City later this month.
