Nebraska Football Recruiting: Huskers Land 6th Recruit in Christian LaCouture

Joseph CiracoMay 5, 2012

Strong side defensive end Christian LaCouture committed to the University of Nebraska, giving the Cornhuskers the sixth pledge in its 2013 class. Based on rankings from Rivals and ESPN, LaCouture is a solid 3-star prospect, and a 4-star from Scout.

LaCouture is listed at  6'5" 255 pounds and is just as impressive as A.J. Natter, who committed in mid-April and also plays defensive end. It's quite possible that Nebraska will try to lure one more talented defensive end—perhaps California talent Joe Mathis.

Currently, the Nebraska class might be small, but it contains a lot of talent. The entire class consists of players on the defensive side of the ball, which shouldn't worry fans to much.

Despite the fact that Nebraska signed four linebackers in last year's class, this position still needed to be addressed. Give the Bo Pelini and staff a lot of credit, as they already have verbal pledges from two very talented players in Josh Banderas and Courtney Love.

Defensive back is another area that the Cornhuskers must upgrade, and they appear to be addressing that concern with Marcus McWilson and Tre'vell Dixon. Dixon should only be considered a "soft" commit, however, as he's taking additional visits.

If you're a Husker fan, be patient. I really believe the offensive talent will begin rolling in soon, especially at quarterback and running back. Despite having roughly 25 scholarships available, it seems the staff is being very picky in their offers.

I've been pretty hard on the staff for not taking recruiting as serious as it should be handled, but I think we're seeing a new focus by Pelini and Co.
