UFC on FOX 3 Results: What We Learned from Dennis Bermudez vs. Pablo Garza

On tonight's UFC on Fox 3 prelims, Ultimate Fighter season 12 finalist Dennis Bermudez and Pablo Garza opened the prelim card on Fuel TV.

Bermudez was able to overcome early submission attempts and upkicks from Garza to dominate him for the rest of the bout. 

The win is Bermudez's first UFC victory after losing three straight MMA fights. 

What We'll Remember About This Fight

Although it seemed like a back-and-forth fight on the ground at first, Bermudez was able to overcome adversity and outwrestle Garza. Bermudez landed multiple takedowns, literally throwing Garza to the mat at times. Although Garza had Bermudez hurt in the first round, Bermudez was able to overcome that and pick up the decision victory.  

What We Learned about Bermudez

Besides learning that Bermudez is a powerful wrestler, we learned that Bermudez has worked a lot on his submission defense.

Garza went for a few submissions in the first round, but Bermudez was able to fight his way out of them. 

After three straight losses by submission, Bermudez showed great heart and made sure tonight wasn't going to be his fourth. 

What We Learned about Garza

Despite having a huge reach advantage, Garza was not able to get anything going. Garza did have Bermudez in a few submissions, but his best offense came when he landed some heavy upkicks. Garza can be a huge threat on the feet and on the ground, but tonight he showed us that wrestling could be a big hole in his game.

What's Next for Bermudez

With his first UFC win under his belt, why not give Bermudez another former TUF fighter coming off of a win in Marcus Brimage?

What's Next for Garza

After hitting the gym and working on his takedown defense, Garza could have a fun fight with Tyson Griffin or Maximo Blanco.
