Calvin Borel Kentucky Derby: Take Charge Indy in Perfect Position to Win
If you only bet on jockeys at the Kentucky Derby, surely Calvin Borel would have the best odds.
The jockey has won three of the past five Derbies, winning on Street Sense in 2007, Mine That Bird in 2009 and Super Saver in 2010.
And he nailed the perfect starting position with Take Charge Indy, gaining Post 3. Borel is so famous for riding the rail in his races, he's affectionately referred to as Bo-Rail.
Clearly, Borel and Take Charge Indy are not to be ignored on Sunday evening.
Of course, you might say the same about Kent Desormeaux and Dullahan. Desormeaux too has three Kentucky Derby victories to his name, having won in 1998 on Real Quiet, 2000 on Fusaichi Pegasus and in 2008 on Big Brown.
He too wound up with a solid draw for his horse, as Dullahan will start on Post 5, where he can settle into the pack and bide his time before making a late push. Dullahan is considered potentially the strongest finisher in this field.
Still, it is Borel that is the Derby's hottest jockey. And it was Take Charge Indy whom Borel—who basically has his choice of horses to ride, given his stature—decided to choose.
That should tell you something.
If Calvin Borel thinks Take Charge Indy is capable of taking this race, you should too. And with a great post position for Borel's famous rail-riding style, don't be surprised if a Kentucky Derby win comes to fruition.
