Mosley vs. Alvarez: Sugar Shane's Age Will Come Back to Bite Him in Defeat

"Sugar" Shane Mosley could give any boxer a run for their money in his prime. But, at age 40, Mosley is far from the pinnacle of his career.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will take advantage of Mosley's age by wearing him down on Saturday night.

Alvarez is only 21 years old and is undefeated at 39-0. Of those victories, 29 have come via knockout. Mosley is in some trouble when they step inside the ring.

Mosley has been struggling of late, winless in his past three fights. He is about due to retire, and maybe this is the fight that sends him there.

Alvarez will show Mosley who the future face of boxing is when he tears him to shreds. The veteran has the experience edge, but that only takes you so far.

However, Mosley is confident of his abilities despite his age, according to Bob Velin of USA TODAY.

"Look, Canelo's a good young fighter, but he probably shouldn't be in the ring with me at this time," Mosley said during their final press conference on Thursday. "It should be someone else. But hopefully he can learn from it, and become a better fighter. He seems like a good young kid."

It almost seems like the veteran is trying to intimidate the young opponent, but Alvarez is taking the high road.

"I can only say good things about Sugar Shane Mosley," Alvarez said. "He is a great champion, but I have trained hard for this fight and I feel that I am going to win it. It's going to be a victory for all of Mexico."

This has already backfired on Mosley. He was looking for a response that replicated what he said about Alvarez. 

Instead, the response was something from a wily veteran.

Alvarez is focused and his words tell the entire story. He will utilize his age advantage by wearing Mosley down.

Prediction: Alvarez wins via unanimous decision.
