Kentucky Derby Predictions: Bodemeister and Two Other Horses Bound to Fail

Mike MoraitisMay 5, 2012

The 2012 Kentucky Derby is as wide-open as a horse racing field could possible be. While there are a few clear favorites, some horses, favorites included, don't stand a chance to win this race.

For whatever reason, some horses are just destined to fail, be it history, track conditions or past performance.

Here are some horses that are bound to fail in this race.

Bodemeister

Bodemeister might be a favorite and one of the fastest horses in this race, but history is working against him in a big, big way.

Bodemeister never raced as a 2-year-old and the last horse to do that and win the Kentucky Derby was Apollo in 1882, according to CBSSports.com.

While it's long overdue to break that streak after a 130-year drought, odds are Bodemeister won't be the lucky one to snap the skid.

This is one favorite you might want to stay away from as history would dictate.

Union Rags

All we've heard all week long is how good Union Rags is.

And while that might be true, he certainly didn't prove it in the Florida Derby.

Union Rags had a chance to catch leader Take Charge Indy late in that race and simply couldn't get there. One has to wonder if Union Rags gets off to a bad start in a crowded field, if he has the juice to recover.

The Florida Derby certainly didn't show that and until he proves me wrong in the Kentucky Derby, I will still have my doubts about this horse being able to win the big race.

Creative Cause

One thing the Derby is known for is close finished and if it comes down to such a finish this year, Creative Cause will be at a disadvantage.

Creative Cause has lost four races in his career and all of those have been by extremely slim margins. With a ton of speedy horses in this race, there's no way Creative Cause will get enough of a lead to overcome such an issue.

If this isn't a rout, I simply can't see Creative Cause having enough juice to outrun some of his competitors down the stretch.
